maya file converting

Hello all.
I was wondering, does anyone know of a plugin that would convert maya 5 files into cmp? I've got a few renders that would make cool ships, but I don't know how to export the render in the proper file format. Any ideas?

Lord Anubis, the easiest way would be to open Milkshape, look at the files it can import, then match one with a file that Maya can export.

only problem is that the only exportable files it seems are maya binary, maya ascii, and mental ray. I checked, and it doesn't work with those.
Anyone have any ideas? this is really frustrating.

I use Maya as well, and i've looked all OVER and never found anything that Maya can export that Milkshape can import or use...I'm still searching AND i have some posts out on 3d forums trying to get some help with that as well. If i find anything, i'll definately let you know, as i have some wicked cool models in Maya and can't do anything but render them hehe.

I'm using the full version of maya. Just learning it, so I don't know a lot of its features (except for polygon modeling, I'm good at that), but I do have some really cool models, which I would like to try flying around in
baen, do you know MEL? its maya's programming language, and supposedly, if you understood both filetypes well engouh, you could write a plugin to convert them.
I'd try this, but alls I knows about MEL is that it sounds like someones name

go to: Click here and download an evaluation copy of Deep Exploration.

it can read several Modelling formats including Maya files, Lightwave, 3D Studio, and more, it can also export to to those formats too. This way you will be able to open your models in DE and export them to a format Milkshape can read.

Sorry to bring back the dead, but...
I finally got enough time to finish one of my models and try importing it into milkshape. Every time I tried, milkshape crashed.
The model is just a polygon, with a grey skin on it. I triangulated the model like it said, but it still didn't work.
Any ideas? This is really frustrating
Does anyone have a plugin for maya that could export a file into a different format, one that milkshape can read? Or a format another (downloadable) editor can read, so I can convert it into something readable for milkshape? thanks

do you have the Freelancer CMP/3DB Importer?

if you have that dll active in milkshape then you will need to remove it from the MS3D directory, it causes MS3D to crash with certain importers and actions.

good to know

Scratch that. Just got deep exploration to work, so I moved my render into milkshape that way. Thanks all!
