Questions about Random Missions

How do you destroy those outposts that are stated in the those random missions?
It tells me to destroy the outpost but everytime I get close to the outpost, it kills my shields and armor. I have also thrown torpedoes at it and still no effect. How do I destroy those things?

Just have to avoid their fire as you attack it. Practice...

they fire at you??? I didn't see anything shot at me?
i took out every thing around it...ships, weapon platforms...

Dude the outpost has to be part of the mission if you can destroy it, otherwise it's a permanent base. I usually just go in, guns blazing, and the station is down in less than thirty seconds. The fighters are then just a trifling matter to be eliminated at my leisure.
