How do we use the space lanes and how do we mine

I have two questions:

1. I can see the space map using the F6 button. However, I can't seem to find the holes or space lanes used to go places faster. How do we find them?

2. How do we mine ore? jSupposedly we can do it. However, I can't find any where where mining is allowed. Also, any mining where there are no rogues trying to shoot me down?

Also, I don't seem to see any loot when I distroy ships. The ship is gone and nothing seems to show up also I keep getting message tractor beam is down. What do we do about that.

"1. I can see the space map using the F6 button. However, I can't seem to find the holes or space lanes used to go places faster. How do we find them?"

Holes and space lanes are two different things (assuming "space lanes" refer to the in-system tunnels to go from planet to planet faster).

To find space lanes:
These aren't that hard to find. They're pretty big structures with two circular openings, usually found around planets and stations in a system. They take you from one place to another in a single system.

Jump holes:
Those won't be unlocked until you reach a certain point in the SP story, upon which the game explains how they work. You find them by flying around in the systems. Those that show automatically on the map, and are in the first systems, usually have the in-system space lanes going to them.

I'm not sure, as I haven't read it myself, but I'm sure the manual talks about these too.

"2. How do we mine ore? jSupposedly we can do it. However, I can't find any where where mining is allowed. Also, any mining where there are no rogues trying to shoot me down?"

You can find minable space on the map. Among the different views is one to show such areas. Again, I'd imagine the manual talks about this, especially since it's not covered in the game directly. As for finding areas without hostiles, that just depends who your enemies are. All zones, to my knowledge, have atleast one faction fly through them regularly.

"Also, I don't seem to see any loot when I distroy ships. The ship is gone and nothing seems to show up also I keep getting message tractor beam is down. What do we do about that."

Not all ships will give you loot, but if you get the audio message that the tractor beam doesn't work, that means you're trying to tractor in shield batteries or nanobots and already have a full supply of them, or you're attempted to tractor in cargo and your already at capacity.

On mining: Find a minable region using the navmap and fly there. Once you're in, take a look around. You'll see asteroids or chunks of ice or ship debris. Use the mouse pointer and look for the smaller pieces that are moving; when you get crosshairs, fire. The piece in question will explode and, with any luck, you'll be left with some tractorable loot.

Oh, and don't fire all your weapons at once, especially if they have different refire rates; you may end up destroying the loot in the process. Use turrets if you have them. The number keys--not the number pad--will fire individual guns.

That's how you mine asteroids? What a pain? Wish there was some sort of low level bomb that would destroy small asteroids!

Well if it did that, it'd destroy all the loot that you could've gotten out of them.

There is a low-level bomb.

It's called "guns".

You use them to blow up the small asteroids that are flying around. You refer to them as "small asteroids".

There you go.
