Your card can handle DX9, it just won't use any of the advanced shader technologies the software provides. You have DX8 installed I presume? It has shaders and stuff an MX can't handle either, but you're fine with it I bet. That said, you don't need to install DX9 for Freelancer =P

It's not DirectX 9, you've got audio codec problems instead. Go take a look in the readme file and look under "audio troubleshooting".

thats very gayness

you should upgrade your card, Ti much better than MX, the MX card you got now is like a GF2

A DirectX9 COMPLIANT card can do all the fancy pixel and vertex shading stuff. This is pretty much only Radeon 9000's and Geforce FX's.

A DirectX9 COMPATIBLE card just means that it works okay with DX9... doesn't need to support all the features. This includes all sorts of old stuff like TNT2's and Voodoo5's.

FL does need Dx9, but only for multiplayer. All it uses is a new DirectPlay component for communicating with the servers. If dx9 isn't installed, you'll get errors when connecting to servers

I have a Geforce4 MX440 and Directx 9 has not caused a problem with any of my games. I have played Freelancer with the details maxed for over 40 hours and the game has never crashed a single time. And the visuals and sounds are awesome!

The Radeon 9000/Pro is NOT a dx9 card. It is a stripped down 8500 (thus just dx8) with a faster core/memory clock designed to compete with the GF4 MX line (which isn't even a dx8 card).

The 9500 and up are dx9 parts.

I assume..I have cable hookup...but I really am not interested in multiplayer. I am having a ball with the single player game. Besides...it is going to be golf season soon and I will be busy with that.

To all ATI users. I sent ATI an eMail last week asking if my Radeon 7500 was DX9 compatable. They sent me a reply back saying YES it was as long as you install there latest "Catalyst 3" drivers for your card, on there website.
