Upgrades?

Hey guys I was wondering. Is it true that you can only get the really good ships after the single player campaign?

I've been flying around for ages but can only level up when I follow the mission campaign. It seems a little pointless once you have finished the story?

Am I doing something wrong? Or is the good stuff only meant for multiplayer?

Is it possible to play the multiplayer game by yourself and add all the good equiptment into the story?

Yes it is true. You have to be a certian level to get certian ships.
Finish the story and then become a hardcore Freelancer. You see less then half of the game in the single player. Go out and explore. Do some random missions. Be dangerous and Smuggle commodities in with out getting caught.

Probably destroy space and time.
