Well picaso I agree with all your points. This game is not privateer. Its close and its still a lot of fun. I am enjoying. We can only hope the success of this game brings out some one who creates a ture privateer sequel. Maybe chris roberts will atempt it again.

Krapylet,

I have found 2 jump holes outside of the story. I was in Sigma 13 hailing various Junker Ships. One Junker told me he was hauling some cargo to Sigma 17. Well I have not been to Sigma 17, and also there was no Jump Gate on the trade lane to Sigma 17. So I figured he must use a jump hole. So I went into formation with him, and he took me right to a jump hole. He entered the jump hole, and I followed. When I got to the other side I was immediatly attacked by 6 Cossairs, they cut me up like I was butter, those guys are good. Their skill was to good for me. So now I am afraid to go into SIgma 17 until I get a better ship.

My guess is that pirates are the ones that use the jump holes. So if you have a neutral to Friendly state with pirates you can find jump holes through them. If not then you might want to look in the hotile controled areas in the sector for them.

An as for being forced to do the story line, you can create a server on your own computer, make it not available on the internet. Then play on your server all by yourself. You won't be forced to do a story.

I also wish the ships were upgradeable in a way that you didn't have to abandon one "empire"'s ships when you moved onwards.

It is sortof demoralizing to think about how pathetic the Liberty ships are in the grand scheme of things.

The differences between ships (or lack of) has been discussed before if I recall. That's why someone was talking about a mod to balance speed and power.

I'd agree that upgrading sounds pretty pointless if, as everyone seems to point out, there is no real benefit from it. I have noticed in the demo that there is little real difference between one gun and the next version of the same gun. So it's an extra 3hp off the enemy's hull for every shot.

Oh whoopee, that means a dogfight is reduced to 1000 shots from me to kill the enemy instead of 1020 while his 5 mates are raking my hull to pieces. Not much of an advantage considering it costs an extra 1K credits. May as welll keep my mk1 gun and my 1K credits since the end result for me is death either way.

It's something I am going to hack as soon as I find out the weapon names.

My idea of an OS is one that operates the system, not a self contained package of every piece of software ever invented.

Exploration is definitely pointless in this game. You're not going to get any different missions other than combat. You're going to get more powerful weapons and shields to do what? Combat. You can do some trade runs to make money to buy weapons and shields that you'll use for..... yep, combat. The entire game is based solely on combat.

The game was advertised as an RPG. It's not. It's a first/third person shooter with some non-linear aspects.

Now that I realize this, I am enjoying the game much more.

Saying that, I kept my Cavalier all the way through the Kusari sector and didn't change it until I got to the BD base. Didn't have many hassles.

Exploration is a way of gaining knowledge, it will be very interesting to find new bases and planets and read their information after landing there. Or to discover new beautiful sights. Give it a try. No, i'm not silly, i'm just sayíng that there is more to exploration than just finding upgrades for your ship.

I enjoy the exploration part of the game also. Its fun for me to just discover hidden bases and wrecked ships and map out the universe, although apparently it isn't for some people. Whatever. Anyways, I've found the game to be much more interesting by not doing any of the random missions, and earning money through trade and salvage instead.
