That's not true. Didn't you play Elite II (Frontier) or III (First Encounters)? Space was extremly realistic in these games. All planets had there realtime orbits around stars, as well as moons around planets, distances were accurate (even from star to star). You had to use really high speeds, time acceleration and an autopilot to get from one place to another. Every celestial object had gravity, you could even slingshot around planets or suns to increase your speed. You could land on every single planet, unless it's mass was too big and it's gravity force crushed you in the process. Some planets like Earth and Mars even had multiple cities to land in. Newtonian Comabt was pain in the ass at first but you got used to it. All in all it would have been an awesome game, if it weren't for the huge amount of bugs and the rather bad graphics. Perhaps Elite 4 is gonna continue where 2 and 3 left, only with less bugs and way better graphics this time.

Nonetheless: i think the way Freelancer lacks realism in order to provide better gameplay and more stunning views is just fine.
