Explain...

Could someone please tell me about how much free time you have in the Badlands before you're blown straight to hell?

Real Scenario: In the demo with my slow, yet well armed Rhino I could not die, my enemies were shredded within seconds.

Full - In my defender, I was checking out Ithica and one rogue came to challenge me. Easy kill.
I was charging my cruise to get out of there then, next thing I know, Rogues are everywhere. I heard ONE blast, then A LOT of explosions simultaneous with my ship's explosion.

Result: HUH?!?!?
First of all, I have never been killed in combat, and I still haven't; that wasn't combat. I couldn't even input a keystroke before the BOOM!
By the way, don't take that as an Ego Rant. I just finished second mission (taking it REAL slow).
How can I see anything in there if they can take me in barely a second.

Make yourself a friend or at least neutral with the rogues and you have all the time you want to get around there. That's one of the remaining challenges after finishing the story missions i think: juggling with reputations in order to make exploration easier.

Heh, in the demo, i was trying to find rochester base (secret base in NY system) and i found it...Well, as i approached, i noticed a rogue and went to kill the little bum. Then about 6 more rogues somehow appeared without me knowing (maybe my scanner just sucks?) and i did manage to beat them all with my patriot. Kinda fun but i guess they were just bloodhounds. Well another story, i was in the badlands looking for the other base that was in the spoilers forum, and i think i got near it because a bunch of rogues kept running around...One last note, dont fight outcasts in the demo, they got some nice guns...

The contact list isn't the greatest, it only updates every few seconds, so enemies can engage before they even show up

Dunno what happened there with instantly blowing up. Sometimes my shields go away really fast, but in a defender, your armor shouldn't go that fast

I did notice that there are times when it does not seem like it matters what your equipment is. A few times I had noticed when being jumped I was badly out numbered when it first started there were only one or 2 then all at once there were 8. Corsairs were real bad about that. The thing was that it was a humbling experience.

It taught me to watch my scanner more and make a decision of when to run. A couple of times I couldn't because they kept hitting my with cruise disruptors. That is ok though as it kept me on my toes or the edge of the seat as twas the case.

Good Game!

You probably ran into an outcast ship, thier weapons can cut through Liberty shields like butter. Happened to me a few times to.

I don't really run this place but I have an understanding with the people who do.

Yeah the outcast peeps in the demo have class 4 and class 5 guns. Hehe not hard to quess what that does to our demo class 1 shields.

By my experience you can notice that you are about to get attacked by enemies when the music changes to a more dramatic scheme or by some radio chatter like "engaging freelancer alpha 1-1" even before the scanner picks 'em up.
