Can''t be a pirate in SP, right?

Just clarifying,

1. You can't PRACTICALLY be a pirate in the SP while the campaign is still running, right? I mean, you wouldn't even be allowed to land in "police" planets to meet Juni and all. My question is, if you take out large transports that are neutral to you (private, not police or military), far away from a station / planet, do you still maintain your neutral status towads police? How many of them can you kill before police turns hostile, more or less?

2. After you finish the game, then I guess you could become a lane hacker / pirate of some sort (oh, those huge transports ae just SO loded with goodies) like in Privateer, but it would make your life a LOT harder, seeing as how you wouldn't be able to land in planets and official bases (of which there are a lot), but only pirate bases. Plus, I guess trade lanes and jump gates would become unaccessible as well?

Susuaran.

You can be still a pirate from time to time.
Your not always on friendly terms anyway with all of the police forces. You are aswell most time of the game friendly with one of the pirate factions. So you can be a pirate.

oh and btw no you could still use lanes and gates, just everyone there will shoot at you

There are a lot of hidden jump points as well, out in the middle of asteroid belts, etc. If the main trade lanes are too dangerous, you can use those to do your dasterdly deeds.

Does anyone know if there are hidden jump points that will allow you to bypass the main storyline at any point and get to the entire galaxy without doing the SP missions?

Now that the campaign is over, I'm flying for the Blood Dragons. their missions give A LOT of credits, I'm sure factions in other systems might offer more, but I just like the Blood Dragons.

What I'd like to know is how to get in good with the Rogues so I can buy a Wolfhound!!

Ive been playing around with SP and trying to get the dagger and pirate factions to like me.. After the first mission I went out and did a little trade lane fighting However the Norfolk area turned red to me.. Never changed Went to do that second mission at the end it wanted me to land on battleship missouri.. Ok thats in Norfolk.. It HATES me.. Its red to me.. I cant land right? Wrong.. I was still able to dock.. Oddly enough as soon as I came out of the ship, the area was miraculously GREEN to me.. Factions are very fickle in this game to me it seems.. I can kill one ship near a base thats sopposed to be green or neutrul to me and it will turn red then I shoot its enemy it turns back.. Or very odd reasons..

Well, this is a brilliant game, no doubt about it...

But I just hope they make some mission packs or addons where it'll offer a bigger variety of freelance missions, like destryong cap ships or escorting something. Maybe even fully join a faction!! It'd be cool to do some secret-ops for one of the Navy's...

The mission to the Missouri you're dropping off the artifact smuggler, right? Juni does put a good word in for you there and it is also an important mission for the navy and LSF (and LPI for that matter).

Also, something else I noticed from the demo at least, I haven't tested it in SP yet:
in the demo, I could attack and steal from the supply depots near Trenton, turn most everything red, run over to Rochestor, dock, save, quit, then reload my game and they would seemingly have forgotten the whole incident. Mind you, the trenton base and those factions never went completely hostile, just down to neutral. I'm thinking if you honk off a major base in an area, you might try leaving the system for a bit, then, when you come back, it might be ok. But, I haven't tried this outside the demo yet.

The factions aren't fickle, the SP campain missions alter's your factions to allow the SP story line to continue (both logically and within the constraints of the game's story). You can try to work as a pirate between SP missions (actually, there is are several places in the SP game where you ARE on good terms with many outlaw factions and the local law is gunning for you), but you will constantly be faced with getting your faction work screwed up when you advance further into the story.

In reality your best bet is to wait until you finish the SP missions and then you can modify the factions yourself without the SP missions altering them. That's when you can truely be as bad as you want to be....

EDIT: I assure you the full game DOES NOT forget factions when you reload a game. That sounds like a "feature" of the demo to me.

Naw, the thing he observed in the demo is the locals getting ticked off because of "friendly fire". But the faction only shifts very slightly for killing the containers or whatever.

During a confused dogfight with bounty hunter right as I was leaving the dock, I accidntally got the entire BMM contingent mad at me with some reckless shooting, and things got pretty hairy.
