Cargo ship, or Heavy Fighter, What do You use to hall cargo?

I was wondering, What do the majority of you use for halling cargo. Do you work your way up to large freighters or do you do your runs halling cargo in your fighters.
I would guess to make more money quicker you would outfit a Freighter, but I see that some of the larger Fighters have quite abit of cargo space.

Just wondering.

I used a rhino to raise cash for a patriot 2 Lavablade 2 Stunpulse Adv. Shields rig... I did water runs back and forth between pittsburgh and fort bush, adding a sizable profit each time, despite the dinky unit price of the cargo. I had my cash in no time flat.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless

This technic will boost your profits in no time but you need to travel to Planet Tokyo first and some money to buy the Drone. (New Tokyo is in the North direction.) Once you arrive at Planet Tokyo you buy the Drone which costs about $60,000. Immediately you buy Engine Components and head for Planet Denver where you can sell them at a high price. Then you buy the Luxury Consumer Goods and head back to Planet Tokyo where you can sell them at very high price too!! The profit on Engine Components is $600. The profit on Luxury Consumer Goods is $577. The distance between Colorado and New Tokyo is only 3 jump holes so it should be an easy task.

In only one trip forth and back I earned impressively $ 206,000! Of course you need the money for Drone which can be a problem, but once you get hold of it you will become the richest man or woman in the world i no time.

Why the Drone? - Because it can take impressively 175 cargo units at a time, has a descent armor and many firearms. Of course you can do the runs with another ships, even with smaller ships but I can highly recommend the Drone due to the cargo it is able to carry.

If you know better trade routes plz let me know.

um, keep in mind, that probably wont work in the SP game, as when you are allowed to go to Tokyo, you'll be hated by all of Liberty and won't be able to land at Denver without a lot of faction work.

Myself, in SP, I made it to Tokyo (after mission 7), and started exploring with a Baracuda. I made it back to Magellan without much trouble, and picked up a Dromedary (275 cargo! same level ship as the drome, 100 more cargo, sweet). I can't recall what I bought at the moment, but there is an item from sell from Magellan destined for a base in the Shi***u system I think it was, and you make over 100k per run. It's a tad long of a run, but your ship is sufficiently more powerful than the navy/police in Liberty, so it's easy enough to just go about your business and blast from turret mode while your ship auto flies to the gates.

And so far, I've found a couple of runs inside Kusari space that can turn 30-40k per run staying in Kusari space, or at worst jumping into the indepents between Liberty and Kusari space.

Back in Bretonia, when I was still a youngin, I picked up the Bret freighter, and did runs of optronics from Planet Leeds to Planet Cambridge, buy for $980 sell for $1329. Then buy a load of Diamonds and return to Leeds, 879 -> 1275. 2 runs and I think I had enough cash for a full cargo load. 5 more runs and i was up around 400k. A little time consuming, 3 systems, and a few ringways, but very very lucrative and not overly difficult.

For Cargo simply buy an good cargo ship that you can at least decently equip (shields, weapons, etc), and stay in the areas that you believe that you can make it from trade run end point to end point. Once you've got enough to move on to a larger frieghter, then move up....

From least to greatest cargo capacity:

Liberty - Rhino 80 Cargo Units
Pirate - Mule 90 Cargo Units
Bretonia - Clydesdale 125 Cargo Units
Kusari - Drone 175 Cargo Units
Rhineland - Humpback 250 Cargo Units

The most that a fighter can carry is 70 Units....

with the Humpback you can make some nice cargo runs that make you in excess of 450k, the top end mission that you can get is probably about 250k...

So, the way to make some good $$$ is to find a great trade route load up the frieghter of your choice and go for it.... Good Hunting!!

hmm, so if the Rheinland Humpback is the highest cargo carrying "system" freighter, I did better than I thought picking up my Drumedary.

it's only level 4/6 guns, not 5/7 like the Humpback, but it's 275 cargo Pick it up at the Mactan <sic?> base in Magellan.
