Well...I have enjoyed reading the news. It is a nice addition to the game..but I do not think you can go off and have a mission offer that is in the news..unless you want to count the 'Kill a certain pilot" that is a part of a faction war mentioned in the news. I would think certain events mentioned in the news does become noticable in some parts of the game world. And a lot of the time..the news is about what you had taken part in doing one of the SP missions in the storyline.

In other words...I think it is a good informational source.
But I could be wrong about all this.

Actually, I've noticed that some of the news events foreshadow many of the upcoming SP mission events. At least so far. But the news does give a lot of information about the sytem you're in, and some of the other sytems, as well as trade info, as long as you have the patience to read all the news briefs.

I was suprised by it too.. I like it. Gives the living feeling to the game.
