Why cant you start SP without storyline?

While the story is very good in my oppinion I dont feel the need to rush through it one more time yet, however I am wondering if it is possible to start a singleplayer game without the use of the storyline... much like MP, just alone.

PS: Since I am not english native please pardon my errors.

surely. just fire up an mp lan game but don't let anyone else join. that's about the best you're gonna get.

I dont think that can be done on a single computer, I have already tried .. unless there is a way I dont know of.

You have to start the game server first before the game. (Its an exe file within your freelancer directory that is not the main game exe)

This game is flawed in this respect I mean, they give you an open ended world where you can do what you want, then top it all off by forcing you through it. (The devs notice the flaw in this themselves by pricing the Anubis to buy for everyone, since they obviously didnt think someone would want to be a trader, or be dumb with their money.)

Danielsan,

Play the story line again? You mean you have explored all of the systems? My understanding is the game will only take you to about 20 of the systems in the storyline and afterwards the fun really begins....as there are so many things to discover.

Maybe you are playing Freelancer for a different reason I am.

"Maybe you are playing Freelancer for a different reason I am"

Are you playing it just for the story, or are you just stupid and think hes bashing the game?

True or False : The game boasts an open ended world where you can do what you want, yet forces you through this scenario that you cannot aviod, and on no terms of your own. (Try being a trader with a freighter before the SP game is finished)

This game rocks, its just the way the SP story is setup that is flawed, plain and simple. Before the station at the beginning is attacked you should have the option of A) Waiting for the SP story to begin, the attack comes, etc, etc. or Be able to get in your ship and leave with your money from that guy (make it a lower amount than a million) and go and be a Freelancer. Its obvious during playetsting the devs realised this, and decided to "fix" the issue by pricing the Anubis at less than 2k.

Its just kind of stupid to boast freedom of choice when you really dont have it.

its also stupid to stay you dont have total freedom, when in fact you do.

Post Thu Mar 06, 2003 4:06 pm

Wrong.

Tell Juni at the start that you dont want to help, see what happens.

Some freedom.

If a player wants to have "complete freedom" in the game to do what they want to...they can. Just start your own MP. I was refering to the fact he seemed to think once the storyline is done...the game ends..with no purpose to continue on.
Which is not true.

On a side note...I have like 8 hours in the game and I have only gone to 2 systems. You do not have to do the missons when Juni tells you to. I like exploring. So..you do have a lot of freedom. Much more so than most other games.

"Just start your own MP"

You should not have to do something that wasnt intended to take advantage of the games high point. If they meant for you to do this, they would have given the option in the game to decline the SP story.

"You do not have to do the missons when Juni tells you to"

Like I said, tell her at the start that you dont want to help. See what happens.

If you guys are going to argue with me just because you like the game, dont bother. No matter how much crying and whining you do, theres no ecaping the fact that you really cant do what you want until you follow/finish the SP game.

Here, just for giggles, tell juni youll help her, just for the ship, then try leaving Liberty space.

Wait, you cant?

Wow, what freedom.

I said before: in the real world you have all the freedom as well. Nonetheless you have to do certain things to take advantage of this freedom (jobs), and sometimes you have to do things you might not want to do (call it fate).

I have tried to start a server on my pc... given it rights to one person with a password included but the problem is that I cant find the server neither on the lan nor internet.

I also dont seem to be able to shut the server down without the "program not responding" popup, and I have to force it to shut down. Dont know if anyone else has had this problem.

From what I have tried it doesnt seem possible to play on the same pc where the server is ... or maybe I am doing it wrong. Please enlighten me if you can.

I believe the game should be able to be started as single player "skirmish" thing, but I dont see it as a major problem since there surely is a workaround to do it. The reason I want to do this is to start initially and test out a few things on my own with altered ini files where the game doesnt have a "savegame" as its origin, because saved games tend to bypass some initial ini file settings. There is no reason to turn this into a huge discussion folks, just help me if you can please.

Thats a very nice useless sidestep, but its still dosent change the fact that the SP setup is flawed, no matter how many times in a day one has to eat, go to the bathroom, or get paid. Using life (or anything else) as a way to explain a flaw in a game just because you want to see it as flawless just shows you need a psycologist.

sounds to me like your the one that needs a pschologist, dangermaus
