Funny Demo error

Ive noticed a very peculiar blue screen of death error when leaving space dock at randolm times. Not sure if this has anything to do with ati stutter problem but this is it. Occasionally when leaving a station my computer blue screens right before the camera pans in to give me ship control. Ive noticed that if I dont restart my computer after this error has occured that the sound stutters in and out or wont play at all with the sound effects playing fine. The dialouge is also completely cut out. Ive found a weird answer to the problem. Turning the dialouge and musci off just before I launch has APPARENTLY solved the problem. It hasnt frozen again as long as i perform this stupid annoying task. Im wondering if its becasue of my relatively slow computer. Im running a Dell XPS T500mhz, 128mb ram, and 3dfx voodoo3 16mb Gcard. Supprisingly my computer runs this game and most of the cool effects without any drop in frame rate. Ive got all the settings on high and the screen res at 1024 x 900 or somethin like that. Is this happening cause of my card, my low ram, or slow cpu speed. My cpu speed does not seem to be at flaw. So what the hell is it! Any help would be greatly appreciated

Well for one, your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements. I believe it needs a 600-Mhz. By turning off the sounds, your system is not using those resources. Recommend getting a faster rig.

As for the "blue-screen" of death - that's M$oft's trademark.

none taken dude, see though everyones entranced in the MHZ myth, thats what apple likes to call it. My computers clock speed might be 500 mhz but what really matters is flops. And I think its got a farily high rate at that.I know the recomended speed is 600 but it makes no sense. My computer runs the game absolutely flawlessly, no drop in fram rate what so ever, even with a lot of ships on screen. I dont get it. Its some kind of code error I think , that my older computers having a tough time with. Something in the sound code. Im gonna try to isolate it and see if its in the dialouge or the music

Funny demo error for me is that I got stuck in a docking bay.. The door literarly crunched me and I was stuck. The doors finaly opened and so I flew in the docking bay thinking I was "docked". But then the doors shut and I was still sitting there. When the doors opened again I flew out quickly as to not hit the ship that was going to dock in my temporary spot.

Yeah this was strange... I was just piddling around in the sector of Trenton Outpost in New York, when I heard a loud KABOOM! I turned my Rhino in the direction where I heard it from (DirectSound rocks!) and ship parts were floating through the atmosphere of Planet Manhatten. I went on about my nothingness and looked back again for no reason (2 seconds later), and watched a transport crash into Planet Manhatten! It exploded with the same boom and big firey ball and the same debris as the first started to float through the atmosphere of the planet. It was on the side of Trenton Outpost furthest from the docking rings for Planet Manhatten. I noticed that the transport (the second one, if the first was a transport too) wasn't carrying any cargo before it blew. Any ideas what was going on? Was that a bug?

The next day, I was in formation with some LPI officers headed for Newark Station from the dark side of Planet Manhatten and they nearly crashed into the planet but they steered away just at the last minute.

I've seen transports make some pretty abrupt moves too. So why couldn't they avoid the crash with the planet?

I'd suggest lowering the resolution a bit. I don't know what "flawlessly" means when you're talking about a voodoo3, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean 60 frames per second with all the effects turned up. You're stressing the card, that's one thing. The second thing is voodoo3 drivers haven't been updated for a LONG time, not including 3rd party driver mods. If anything will help that rig, it will be a video card update (one that is SUPPORTED), followed by more ram.

I really DOUBT it's Microsoft's fault. Of all the things you listed, the video card is a veritable spotlight of possible errors...

Found the problem. The music and dialouge volume lowering thing wasnt it, I should have known that. It was just coincidence that the problem seemed to stop. My graphics run flawlessley because im only running 16mb graphics on my voodoo. Ive now been able to turn my res up to 1600 x 1200. The problem was in 3D sound. I clicked it off to disable it.....Not a single crash yet. I realized that the system kept crashing just before i was given control when leaving space dock, and when i messed with the views cause that changed ambient sound directions.. it was wigging my computer out. So problems solved dudes. Thanks for the help
