Demo - Argh - Recovering/Editing/Fixing Ended Save Game File

Hey guys,
Sorry if this has been discussed, but first I installed the MOD to remove the limit so you can play the demo forever, and then I installed a MOD to let you buy all the ships. They did work fine together and I was havin' lots of fun, but apparently as a side effect it reinstated the demo "limit" and unfortunately I hit it, so now I can't load that save game (well, I can...but it just takes me to the teaser screen and then out of the game). I had progressed with my reputation quite a bit and (stupidly on my part I admit) did not back up thinking I didn't need to to just have some fun. If there's an easy way (even some basic hex editing) to fix this, I'd like to know to avoid doing all the navy fighting again.

Planning on buying it, but not for a week or two (prolly get it online). So I'd like to have some more fun with the demo until then.

When the teaser screen comes up, look for the release date and click on the 4.
