Switching weapons to open hardpoints?

How do I get weapons that I have looted from fallen enemies onto open hardpoints? I noticed that when I when I sell a weapon from a hardpoint the icon on the next weapon in my inventory gets an icon that is slightly different and shows a gap or something between the the two "pieces" of the icon. Even better , is there a way to just get a weapon off the hardpoint and switch them? I dug all thru the manual and couldn't find anything =/

THank you

You click that icon to mount an unmount equipment.

You must land on a base/planet to mount/unmount equipment i might add. It doesn't work in space.

I how equip and unequip, but what if you want to move it to another free spot instead of the one it's currently in? When you unequip it and re-equip it, it puts it right back in that same spot again. Is there a way to leave an empty space between instead of automatically putting them together? Like:

Lavablade
Empty Gun/Missile Hardpoint
Lavablade

you gotta shuffle em around using other guns, its a bit of a pain.
