OMG read this!

i read the (p)review from next level gaming and OMG it looks like the havent even played the game or something read this:

Open-ended universe-Gamers can select to play random missions or follow the storyline. The universe is open for exploration, and the game advances based on decisions players make.

play random mission OR follow the storyline AHHUMM you HAVE to follow the 13 missions storyline.

yes you do how the hell will you get the jumpgate acces codes or want to lvl up to buy other ships (or get rid of those annoying msg like find juni in the bar of manhattan) you just hav to do them

You are encorouged to take the story missions, but there are many places during the 13 missions yuo can break of and explore. Or you can select to play the MP game, which is very totally open from the start.

They need to force you through the first three missions to teach you the game!

Most of the time you can ignore the SP campaign. Just ignore the message that says: "Meet Juni at the Golden Banana on Eroticon 5". I have even declined missions from Juni and she is still there, patiently waiting...

why would they call it open-ended and force you to play all the missions?

are you on crack?

The story missions provide structure in SP. Yes you have to do them sometime, but even after you complete them the game is still open for you to play.

Probably "guides" down that path to build up your levels so you don't get your butt handed to you in the other systems.

The real world is open ended too... nonetheless you sometimes have to do things that you maybe don't like to do.

In Freelancer, you do not have to follow the story at all. In SP, practically you do. But in Freelancer as a whole, not at all. Important distinction

well i have 2 opnionons about the story's

they should have maked more and made 2 sp game variations
like no storyline and just start with your starflier and make money

and a very big no open ended story line

Post Wed Mar 05, 2003 2:54 pm

No you dont half too! Yes if you dont do the first two or so you wont be able to do certain thing's! But after that you can do what you wont but me Iam going to get the storyline mission's out of the way first anyway so to me it's not that big of deal and it should not be for anyone else eiather.

So they worded it wrong, doesn't mean the review is inaccurate.

Well there is another aspect of the OR that you can consider. Play SP OR make a private LAN MP game and it's just as open ended as you want.....what you are asking for IS there, you just didn't consider how to do it (or ask).

If you want an completely open ended SP game. Start a server on your own machine, start up the game and join your private server game and now you DO have an SP mode that is completely open ended w/o any story missions.
