Is Freelancer similar to the RPG ''Traveller''?

In certain ways, at least?
I would have to say the two have nothing in common beyond both belonging to the sci-fi genre.
Traveller is an old papern and pencil roleplaying game from the late seventies and is considered by many to be the definitive sci-fi RPG.

I know the post is to Steve Jackson Games, but the original version is out of print, so this may be the best way to play it.

Having played a great deal of Traveller in my days(1st edition, a version that a friend of mine scratch built and the new d20) I would say there is very little in common between the two games. The ships arent very similar and there is very little of the ground based RPG(other than getting jobs and finding out rumors from fixers in bars). I would concur with the others that have posted that other than being in the future and a sci fi game it is not similar.
