Demo-Will it help or hurt Freelancer.

The good thing about the demo is it lets people see that mouse control is not bad. But the downside is htat it gives the impression that all the games AI is as bad as the rouges who fly pieces of junk. If people dont have the full game they will think that this game is extremly easy. Which is quite untrue. What do you guys think?

why does everyone spell it "rouge"?
I'm just curious, thats all.

I have read in most of the reviews that it will become more difficult, once you get out of the New York system. I think most people read those reviews too

why does everyone spell it "rouge"?

I write rogue
It's just a fast-typing error I guess, like the/hte

I dunno, if you play the demo long enough, so that the rogues REALLY hate you, they start to gang up on you big time. And there ships are pretty maneuverable too. I still kill them of course, but I kinda respect them for their tenacity. The AI works so that when the enemy shoots at you, they ALL shoot at you. Watch the police gang up on a single Xenos ship to know what I mean - it's pretty intense, despite their low-powered weapons.

Needless to say the demo made me want to buy the game IMMEDIATELY after the first 30 minutes of play.

I think it will help to sell the game. This is a really good demo and if you do it right...you can play it for a long time. They should have just limited the player to the New York system and not allowed them to buy any item above level 1 requirement and not used the cash limit thing tho. Easy to do..just take the level 2 items out of the demo. Anybody who likes the game is not going to be satisfied with just the demo!

the demo definately helps. i mean you can only go into one system, even if you travel space on ur cruise engines for 5 hours (i tried). people want to see the other systems/nations AND they also want to be on the good side of the rogues. and i doubt anyone is on the demo.

Hmm yes the rogues and junkers are the easiest to kill out of any of them, tactically they are pretty useless. The Xenos can be a bit tricky sometimes, not hard but tricky.

However most people are intelligent enough to realise that it is just a demo and it barely scratches the surface.

I don't really run this place but I have an understanding with the people who do.

I don't know if it will help or hurt FL, but I don't think it's very representative of the game. Most of the AI isn't very good (because you start there) and the NY system is probably the most bland.

xenos are easiest to kill. remember the game designers had in mind that they dont want trade between people, so they get less stuff. and gayer ships, with those civilian starfliers................most difficult people atre the outcats, they rarely follow you do a base and if they do they are still a bitch to kill. i led a group of 3 to the battle ship mussurio and it took 10 minutes for me,the battleship, and like 7 police officers and 2 starfliers from the republic to kill them.

Yeah, outcasts are pretty crazy. I just scanned one of their ships last night (after I finally was friendly to them). Their weapons are like 5x more powerful tahn anything you can get in the demo...good thing they just travel in groups of 2.

It serves its purpose. It gives you a taste of the game and helps familiarize fans with the controls of the game before buying it.

I came. I saw. I conquered. And sometimes get conquered.

Even though my lowly Voodoo3 doesn't display the text very well, I can't wait for the game to come out in Oz.

I will buy it ASAP.
So far I think it is awesome.

Confirmed Kill, chalk one up for the FREELANCER.

even the the outcast light fighter is as strong as any liberty fighter. and it has the hardpoints that can carry pyros type 2 turrets which are extremely powerful in the early game but the only problem is u need a good ass ship to use them.

I think it will hurt Freelancer!

Some of the issues have already been discussed but most of my friends now have the opinion that Freelancer should be treated as an arcade shootem up.

I think the AI is gonna be a big issue unless it goes through a huge improvement.

Also the static trading system will disappoint many. A lot of people were really hoping that the trading would be a challenge like Privateer 2.

The fact that all ships max out at the same speeds was also a disappointment.

Still, I fully intend to buy the full game and give it a try. Maybe Microsoft will add some features and possibly change some of the letdowns in the future. But I know a number of red hot customers that are now lukewarm after experiencing the demo.

If any features are going to be added, Digital Anvil will put them there. Man, we have GOT to dispel this Microsoft myth!

I've heard a lot of griping about the engines too. But look at it this way. If you could get better engines, everyone would just buy the best and we'd still be in the same boat. I think it was rather intelligent of the developers to just cut out that useless bit of competition. And it also would suck in multiplayer - picture a newb being strafed by evil veteran players with no chance of getting away...
