MIP Mapping and LOD Settings... help!

Hey all, I've haunted this place for a while but haven't had a look at the game untill recently. It's excellent, but some graphical problems mean it's a little less impressive than it could be.

To the point - how do you stop the game from automatically setting Level Of Detail on textures and objects? Flying alongside a large ship or planet you can see a definite and obvious line where the detail changes to a lower setting and the less detailed textures come into play. I've a system that can definitely cope without this feature but can't find any way of turning it off. Is there a setting I can alter/create in a config file to deal with this?

Many thanks!!

Hey, check out the thread by sellout b1tch, here's the link:

Maybe you can play with the LOD settings there, good luck.

Thanks for the speedy reply! It certainly looks like a good start to what I'm looking for, I'll go and try it out. Thanks again!

I also had this problem with the line on object right in front of me. I used nvhardpage from guru3d.com to set all my Direct3D settings to their maximum values and it cured the problems. I can see detailed textures on the planets from halfway across the system. Hope this helps!

Hmm, well I've tried the suggestions in the other thread and I've also tried upping all the detail settings in the program you suggested - nothing seemed to make a difference. Perhaps you can tell me what exact setting you have now?

Hold that thought - I dived into my display properties and upped Anisotropic filtering in the D3D settings section from 0 to 1x (I've kept it off before to keep performance nice and high). It's entirely solved the problem of texture mapping - although LODs still change kinda visibly. That said, combine it with the tips in the other thread and FL looks so so much better than it did before. This is how the game should look.

you've also changed your mipmap lod bias? That would sharpen the textures.

And how exacly do you change ur mipmap????

I am trying to take screenshots, and I just want sharp textures, no text, and possible even edge smoothing???
