Hey tagos

Granted, I understand what you are saying, but despite the fact that I hugely enjoy this game, the fight scenes for me are redused to point and click in space.

Starlancer set a standard which many people were expecting to continue, and it was wholly involving. Freelancer needs a JS option, because certainly for me (and no doubt thousands of other flight jockeys) in a battle instead of enjoying it and actually feeling like I'm there, lining up the shot, being hit around by return fire, everything depending on your skill and reflexes, it becomes a case of focussing on the red cross and following it with the mouse.

I don't know about you lot but that rather ruins the fun a bit for me - you don't see any of the eye candy or get into the game as much, because if you do the red cross has buggered off the side of the screen. The mouse works, and kudos to them for developing it so well, but at the same time I find it unecessarily unwieldy to combine it with flight and shooting. I don't mind the lack of targetting etc, it's nice to be able to relax and look around, but the actual FEEL of flight is one thing I enjoyed. Once again, a game that promised so much has only delivered half the Elite template we all desire! Why is it games only do one or the other?

This is the big crux of it all: if JS support, as everyone keeps saying, is so easy to add, WHY can we not have BOTH? WHY force people to one option or the other? If it's so bloody easy to implement, drop it in in a patch and makes those of us who are whining feel better. I remember a game called Epic, years ago when I had my Amiga. beautiful game, looked amazing... youcould only fly with the mouse and it failed. I don't see why they can't give people the choice, imho - keep everyone happy, mousers and jockeys alike.

I know it's not a true sim but then again neither was Rogue Squadron and imagine playing THAT with a mouse. Whatever combo your joystick is in, it is still a tactile and personal way of flying that I find far more involving than the removed and distant mouse. (Mice belong with FPS for me really, it's my religion ). I've caned the demo and yes, I want the game, but I am disappointed in that respect, and although it is amazing and highly addictive what I have yearned for, and thought I had found, was an intricate game of details like elite, starlancer, freespace etc, mixed with the scope and beauty of freelancer and again elite. The search goes on...

Your patch ideas make sense, but don't you agree it would make life easier if they just made everyone happy and let us CHOOSE? Fantastic game though.

Who loves the atmospheres on the planets? A shame we can't fly on in ourselves!

Joystick is not going to be implemented. It was put in and taken out multiple times during the game's development, and was the subject of heated debates within DA. It would take a very significant number of people to convince DA to reimplement it, and that support is not there.

I just wanted to mention something about the lack of radar.... As it turns out, the arrows aligned at the perimeter of the screen when enemies or waypoints are not in view essentially function as a "full screen radar". True, they don't give you an awareness as to how many radians/degrees away they are from your viewpoint, but as tagos said (excellent post earlier) it's too fast to matter.

But I am puzzled aas to why we can't have the choice! I'm sure the debates were heated, but it would be nice to hear all the reasons.

I'm surprised you say the fanbase isn't so in favour of the JS. the vast majority of people wanting this game that I have spoken too agree they'd like to be able to choose it.

More choices is good, but then again, there's plenty space sims out there that totally ignores keyboard and mouse flying, or have very sucky support for keyboard and mouse. Only ONE Freelancer that is fully mouse-dedicated. Joystick users shouldn't complain too much.

Besides, there's the balance issue for both MP and SP. Is too easy/hard for joystick user to kill other players/finish the storyline?

Ahh crap, got drawn into a joystick discussion. Lock the thread, I say.

Besides adding more missions the patch also needs to fix the cockpit shakeing were the cockpit shakes even when you aren't moving.

cockpit shaking just adds to the 'realism' its the engine rumbling damnit!

A notepad (think Deus Ex). Really... if the Neural Net lets Trent make those thought-entries into his personal log during missions... it should allow the ability to jot down notes about trade routes, rumors, secrets, etc.

Tobias as the equipment dealer on Leeds. With discount prices. Damn.

Option for voice-only, voice with subtitles, or text-only conversations. (I'm not hearing-impaired, but having already played this game at 4 in the morning when I should be sleeping... yeah.

I take it you have not flown the Kusair Light Fighter. If my engine was shakeing THAT much I would sue the maker.

I want to be uber l337 and r0x0rs you with my shiznit joystick. Enough with the joystick nonsense, this is not a flight simulator. The mouse/keyboard setup works better than anything else ever could with the HUD the way it is and all. Go play I-War 2 or Flight Simulator 2003 if using a joystick makes you feel like a better player.

lol now now sarcasm isn't necessary. It doesn't make me feel like a better player; I just happen to enjoy it a lot more than the mouse, I find it more involving, and yes I've tried the mouse and it works and I can live with it. However... t'would be nice to have the option, as I say. I didn't make this judgement until I had given both a lot of thought, it's not like I'm fixated with my joystick (well, more than any other male of the species).

I think a lot of people have overreacted about the lack of JS support, I mean it's REALLY not worth fighting over, but I am happy to have sensible discussions on the subject. What would be perfect for me would be JS for flight and firing, very simple stuff that lets me enjoy the feeling of actually FLYING the ship, and being able to use the mouse to target and use all the options. What a great amalgamation that would be!

As to the balance... well, if you prefer one over the other I would assume you get very used to it and in terms of use once you get good they are probably fairly even. It's purely a tactile and enjoyment/involvment thing for me anyway, the game is there for enjoyment not the see who the biggest fragger-in-space is. I just feel a lot more detached from the action mouse-wise. Perhaps being able to use JS in single player but forcing MP to use mouse? That could work, even footing and all. Anyway, this game will always rule because it has co-op, like it's predecessor. How awesome!

I've not had any cockpit shaking or anything yet, I guess it may be a typical "some pc's just don't click" thing, as ever. What a beautiful game, whatever happens I'll be spending a large part of my life on this

People in the UK are a bit behind all you lot on a lot of these issues, you get stuff waaaay before us, so sensible discuccions please and no unecessary comments, I'm not interested in flaming matches.
