max speed?

Do you eventually get to go faster than 80 units per whatever? i've upgraded my ship, yet still only have that as a max speed. don't some ships in the universe go faster than that?

80 is max for all ships (in normal drive)

One big argument i have is the damn speed and manuverability of the damn fraighter they seem WAY to agile!!

Maybe after you bought the freighter you forgot how agile the fighters really were. I was flying a patriot and decided to get the rhino...the thing was a fricking unresponsive as hell beast. I greatly prefer the fighter over the freighter, I can kill the enemies much more easily with the fighter. When you get overwhelmed with many enemies in a freighter, it's far harder to come back and kill them all.

Hmm no i never forgot how much more agile the fighter was because i have 2 saves with both ships and once playing fighter then playing fraighter you learn that ok there is a difference but not a HUGE difference like there should be. At presetn i think the freighter is to manuverable needs toneing down in a patch.

Your opinions are welcome of course. I think that if you made the freighter any less maneuverable it would become impossible to survive in.

If you made the freighter a little less manuverable i think you would be fine after all think of all the nano bots + turret mounting/guns and it has turret mode. you can easily get by and hey a freighter is for carrying large amounts of cargo from A to B it shouldnt be as dangerous as it is (im talking dangerous because its to manuverable)

It's possible. I'm basing my thoughts on the demo though, I can't say what it would be like piloting a decked out freighter in the border worlds and being swarmed by fast fighters.

I agree Sarpedon! It would be alot harder to get out of a big dogfight in freighter than a fighter! They are freighter's and that's what their bult for to freight things. Not saying that you could not win in a big dogfight just alot harder to do so and chance's of get blown to space dust increase. One on 2 or one on one is fine but if you plan on getting in big dog fights or going in areas where you get run into them. Well your best bet is to have a good fighter to escort you to make things easier! It's your ship and your cargo take your chacnes which too you can always run! But again its your ship run it the way you want but overall fighter always has upper hand in big combat situattion's!

Jesus all ships 80 ???? WTF in privateer were all different and that is why i liked in privateer. When a bought -dont know the name the last ship i was very happy cauze the ships speed was 500 and like drivenig a porche in space easely outrun any pirates with afterburners. but now only 80 and all of them WTF ?? this is wrong or it is some kind of joke even with new afterburners still 200 ??

Come on... That they all have a comon speed is not the end of the universe, and even while I would have liked them to be different, I think the DA reasoning was that thay had a VERY hard time balancing them.

This is something that we as fans might be able to addess, so look in the Editing forum!

You guys need to calm down. Just because all the ships max out at 80 in the beta version doesn't mean they will in the gold version. No matter what gets tweaked the gold version is bound to be better.

Let's get those missiles ready to destroy the universe!!

I thought it would be easier to balance with varying speeds. As it is now, the biggest ship wins (with similar skilled pilots). If little ships were faster than the big ships, then they could zoom around and would have a better chance of winning. I don't think they have much chance now.

i hope you mean agile without air resistance, it IS space ya know, agility really isnt an issue due to no air in there. i mean yeah gas in stuff but does that really make a diff? its zero g in space. anything with a good thruster can be maneuverable, even if its a giant cube as big as ft bush.

But there's still inertia. The bigger a ship is, the more mass it has, the more force is required to change it's direction. Think of it this way, if you are in outer space would you want to be hit with a comet or a tennis ball? Even though there is no air resistance, the bigger the object the harder it is to stop.
