Missiles n'' Mines

Hi there,

On playing the demo a fair bit, I can't work out the best way of using missiles/mines. During battle with pirates etc, I keep hitting the right key to launch 'em (Q being missile default) but I don't seeing much happening on screen indicating the state of the missile.

I can't tell if I'm firing them (yes I have bought some lol) or they are just missing their target...

Or am I just being dumb?

Don't use missles.

Use mines when you have unwanted tail-gaters.

Simple.

How can I tell if mines are deploying then?

What's the point in missiles if you can't see them trail off beautifully, hunting their target?

Warmonkey, did you actually BUY missiles? You have to buy the launcher and some ammo for it first, you don't just start with it and have unlimited ammo

Yeah, missiles are supposed to much faster and therefore make decoyes usefull..!

hey...ehhh....hey you!! thats MY bong!!!!

Ahh no.. I'm not sure I have the launcher.. I've just been buying missiles at $300 ish a pop... What's the launcher?

Just been reading I have to hit the number keys to activate them too?... or not?

You buy launchers in the gun section of the equipment shop. I find that usually when you buy them, they give you a few missiles to go along with it. You then go to the missile, torpedo, mine, and countermeasure section to buy the type of missile that goes with that launcher. For instance, you would buy a Javelin launcher and then go buy Javelin missiles. These are the only two that match. You cannot buy a Javelin launcher and a Moonstalker missile. This goes for the mine launchers, countermeasure launchers, and torpedo launchers.

Also, notice there are normal missiles and disruptor missiles. Disruptor missiles are used for pulling ships out of cruising speed and normal missiles damage shields and hull. Some missels do more to shields and some do more to hulls.

When you shoot a missile, you should see it shoot out ahead of you unless you are doing the afterburner as you shoot it, in which case you would pass it up. I use Cruisers right now and it has a yellow flame shooting out of it and I see it shoot off in the ditance and can easily tell if it hit or missed.

Mines are not as easy and I tend to launch them with faith that they released. I basically use them if someone seems to be right ebhind me. Now, if you want to look behind yourself when you launch them, just hit the V key which gives you a view behind yourself. Hold that while launching the mine and you can verify that it is being dropped.

Re: Mines

I have noticed a difference in the way mines act between the demo and the full version. I bought the seeker mines, and I would launch them, and the mine would follow the target and try to hit the target, then detonate. I would see the mine in front of me chasing a target sometimes. That was for the demo.

In the full version, I launched the seeker mine, it went out a little bit, then came right straight back to ME! Of course, I didn't have a chance to avoid it cause I was surprised. I did have a target highlighted, he was in brackets, but the mine didn't even try.

Anybody else notice this? Or was it just my luck?

Thanks, SMATZ

I've had my own mines chase me in the demo. Might have just been luck.

Missiles are great. What I like to do is buy the "non-seeking" variant, which has a higher payload, and after you drop your opponents shields if he comes heading right towards you just fire off a missile and strafe out of the way of his lasers. I've taken down MANY ships this way. With my Eagle, I have two Catapult missile launchers mounted, I enjoy them so much (still looking for those super missiles). They're really good for destroying stationary targets, too. While I'm heading at it, I hit the Q key to fire two missiles, then hit Shift+Q to fire off a torpedo.

Stormtrooper Tactics 101: Okay class, repeat after me. "There he is! Blast em!" Very good.

1. The game won't let you buy missiles unless you own a launcher already.

2. Seeking mines will go towards whatever comes nearest to them first. So, if you are going less than the mines maximum speed when you drop them they will target YOU.

3. The Razor Mines are AWESOME!!! Usually dropping just one of them will take out just about any ship in Liberty Space from my experience...sometimes even more than one ship if they are all caught in the blast radius!

4. The SunSlayer Missiles are GODLIKE!!! If ever in MP and want to punish some cocky, cheating, thinks he's invincible, level 38 player just stroll up to them and drop a couple SunSlayers right next to them...do it very close because they move VERY slow.

Actually Lancer Missiles, while horrible expensive, are more or less StarSeeker torpedos in a missile launcher. They do nearly the same damage, but they seek better too.
