Background keeps rotating...

When flying, the background keeps rotating to re-orient my ship. I don't remember this happening in Privateer, Wing Commander, or Tachyon. So I'm wondering why this keeps occuring. I've toggled between the "rotate help" option, but the problem still persists. Playing with it off seems to lessen the frequency but it's still annoying when it happens. I have a key assigned to "auto level". Is there a way to prevent it? Or am I missing something?

this keeps happening to me too. why does it autolevel?

That is strange. I never once had that problem. Maybe you guys have a setting that is wrong? Are you guys playing the demo?

switching between Free and Mouse flight will auto level you. Mouse flight is default NOT auto-leveled. Free flight is. Turn off auto level in Free Filght by hitting the "L" key.

i don't use the mouse. I use WADS for the turning and the pitch. Could that be causing it?

Post Tue Feb 25, 2003 9:36 pm

and, yeah, it's happening with the demo.

Yes, of course that could be causing it....Guys the game is designed for the mouse, it works very well give it a frickin chance. Autolevel only runs when you're not in direct control i.e.: Using the left mouse button to turn. It you're in free flight it will not autolevel u.

but shouldn't it only autolevel with the option box checked?

edit: I'll try hitting the L key. thanks

Wing, using the left mouse button to turn is what the game itself calls.. "Free Flight", lol. Mouse flight is just point your mouse n go.

hwo do you barrelroll? is it a combination of turning and hitting autolevel on/off?

swing the mouse above your head? :p

so does the L key work? what if a keyboard had an analog contorl like a PS2 controller, that could work as the pitch controls? that would be cool

Post Tue Feb 25, 2003 10:35 pm

I just checked. The L key isn't assigned to anything. So would pushing that turn off the autolevel? LOL

Post Tue Feb 25, 2003 11:11 pm

Err... it autolevels you so you know where the **** you are in relation to the map lol. Alot of people would get lost, they'd go upside down without knowing, and then look at the map and go one way, when they should be going another...

Does this help?

hmmm. I suppose. Since I usually set waypoints, it wouldn't bother me if I was upside down. I guess if someone told me to "Go to Planet Houston and take a left" then I'd need to be right side up. But not for waypoint flying.
