Unlock your FP demo - 2MB download

Hey, all, I figured most of you playing the demo wouldn't want to have to connect to Fileplanet everytime you want to play. So since I downloaded both versions of the demo, I had a chance to compare them. And I quickly found a way to change the FP version to the unlocked version. This should work on WIndows XP; if someone else is running a different version and knows where the files discussed below are stored please update.

1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp\, replacing "User" with whatever username was active when you installed Freelancer.
2. Open the tempinstall folder.
3. Copy the 021803_release_1050_Idemo_ver20 folder to your desktop.
4. Download this file: http://67valiant.com/freelancer/Freela_1.exe. Save it on your desktop.
5. Open the 021803_release_1050_Idemo_ver20 folder (on your desktop)
6. Open the game folder.
7. Open the Exe folder.
8. Overwrite the existing Freela_1.exe file with the one you just downloaded.
9. Remove Freelancer and EZPad.
10. Reinstall Freelancer from the setup inside the 021803_release_1050_Idemo_ver20 folder on your desktop.

Congratulations! You're done!

Why would you want to lose the ezPad stuff? Ok, I don't like it but it doesn't really annoy me.

But thank you for your hard work off course!

Oh, hey, it looks like you can just copy the Freela_1.exe file over the original Freelancer.exe to get the same thing.

I understand where you guys are coming from, but you should really keep this stuff off the forums. This site would be shut down just like any other pirate site except this site is not trying to hide from the publishers. (or their lawyers)

Heck, this page is linked by Microsoft themselves!

@ ckelite: Thank you for posting this.

@ Wizard: Why do this? Well I don't want to connect to the net every time I play the demo - plus who knows what data gets transferred to ezpad/fileplanet, oh and the ad is annoying too.

@ Katana: Well this is not really related to pirating IMHO - after all the demo is freely available for download and all he did was posting a link to a file that is contained in that demo - of course some MS lawyers may have a completely different opinion....

You are technically right, but giving instructions on how to bypass the EZpad software is piracy. Read the EULA for the fileplanet demo, they specifically state that any attempt to alter the EZpad aspect of the demo is breaking the agreement.

Personally I don't care either way, but I would care if LR got shut down (improbable yes, impossible no)

**edit**
I'm gonna drop it now, I just realized I don't want to spend the entire day defending File Planet's right to screw the public
