The truth about freelancer.......part 2

Been playing freelancer for a few days and just read the post/flame fest saberwhore made.

I loved privateer, privateer 2, all the wing commander games, elite etc.....

Freelancer was supposed to be about a HUUUUUGE dynamic universe where you could go anywhere and do anything.......I WANT to like freelancer I really do, but what saberwhore said is the truth.

99.9% of the game is just "go to X spot, kill X" even privateer 1/2 had MUCH more complex missions then freelancer.

Privateer1/2/Elite all were overall MUCH more complex then freelancer.

I really DO want to like freelancer, but I hardly find myself playing it anymore-every mission is just more of the same repetative "go to x, kill y, mabey hit tractor"......that is it.

Those people who said "oh its so much deeper!" etc etc...I am sorry to say either havent played the game, or are lying because that simply IS NOT true.

I waited years for freelancer.

I wanted to love it.

I am unfortunentaly sad to say that it really ISNT anything special, it is mostly just "Go to X, kill Y" .

"Been playing freelancer for a few days and just read the post/flame fest saberwhore made."

So you decided to make one yourself. Get a life.

Dragaro, almost every post you made in saberwhores thread about features in freelancer are nothing short of a BLATANT lie-go troll elsewhere.

There is a difference between a fan of a game, a fanboy and a fanatic......I doubt you've ever played freelancer-and if you have you are just lying about its features to make it better, for what bizzare reason I can only guess.

I sure hope you're going to find that game of your dream. FL is surely not it. Good luck! Why do you even bother registering and posting this thing? waste of your time and our bandwidth. If you're just going to agree with someone, post it under his thread. Do not clutter the list with a new one. BYE.

Lach - go out and explore - find those nice spots in the universe... Make that great money run, find those hidden things and systems... And then come back and post again...

lol i havent made anything up, its you trolls coming here and badmouthing the game for kicks that are making the crap up. You prove this by stating ya saw sabrewhores thread, and instead of commenting there, you decided to make a new thread to create yet another flame war. Again the beta testers have been playing for months, youve been playin for 3 days, guess whos right? It sure aint you.

Remember, people are entitled to have their own opinions.

I thought people might want to know the truth.........That thread was locked, otherwise I would of.

I was hoping for freelancer to take privateer 2(digital anvil all having worked on it /wing commander games) and make it even better.......but unfortunentaly it is just the reverse.

I said a few days....I've been playing freelancer for the past week and logged in I would say roughly 30-40 hours. I have the game pre-ordered so it dosent matter what my source is, does it?

I couldnt comment in saberwhores thread was it was locked.

Darago-I wont be responding to you in this thread as you are BLATANTLY denying reality, in a month or so when most people get it, they will see the truth for themsleves.

I WANT to love freelancer I really do, but all I see is the dozens of features privateer, privateer 2 and elite had which freelancer does not........granted that some things are a bit much-but things like mission variety (EVERY mission is "go kill x", a fluctuaring commodities market, planetary emergencies(the list goes on....) SHOULD of been in freelancer but were not.

At the minimum I would of expected everything privateer 2 had and more but it honestly feels like a step back in terms of gameplay.

Your going to tell me the game has dynamic in flight missions, planetary emergenicies, a REAL commodities market, meaningfull factions(you change so fast/often in single player they are meaningless) and the ability to effect game politics are all in the game?

If I find a group of freighters under attack and kill the pirates, the freighters dont say ANYTHING, my faction isnt effected, hell half the time they fly off while I fight em.............

We admitted that Fl lacks a few things. but those things (some of them are of minor importance) don't screw up the game for us.

The problem some of us see here is that you start with talking about flame thread, and then you give material to start another one.

The thing is I disagree and whole lot of other people disagree... But you are entitled to your oppinion, though I think you are wrong. Then again, I won't be the person to convince the world.

My comments in the other threads on this board stands. I think FL is an excelent game, trying to revive the Space Sim genre, but also daring to try a bit of new stuff. It might have it's highs, and it has it's lows... such is life! :9

All in all: And even all here must agree: FL is a very good game... It might not deliver on all the dreams we imagined over time, and it is next to impossible to compeat with a dream! FL2 will get closer to the dream - if you all support this great effort, and buy the game!

Would it be too much to expect freelancer to have at least as much as privateer 2 had?

ALLLLLL you can really do in freelancer is fly around and blow stuff up.

Sure you can do cargo runs, but the prices never fluctuate and you cant use stuff unless your the right level(I think the level system is rediculous.....).

SURE you can go hunt pirates but.......well nothing ever changes-there will never be LESS pirates and you cant blow their bases up.

SURE you can go and explore but......nothing you encounter provides any meaningfull interaction, except for your ability to shoot it.

Lach you said..."it does not matter if you have the game ordered what copy you have?" Of course it does! You can allways cancel your preorder..which would not surprise me if you do.

And if you do not...why pay for a game you do not care that much about? Your opinion based on a illegal copy of Freelancer means diddly squat to me.

Post Mon Feb 24, 2003 11:51 pm

Freelancer is a game all on its own. Im sure you'll make great use of your good ideas when you make your own game in the future.

I meant I could have it longer then 3 days and my source dosent matter-nor does it matter that my copy is illegal because I already pre-ordered the game......I dont generally believe in doing that kinda stuff but since I have freelancer pre-ordered the opportunity was too good to pass up. I dont plan on canceling my pre-order though as software piracy is wrong.

I'll pay for the game because I have already played it and though I dont particularly like it, it is still WRONG to steal. I dont support ANY sort of media piracy, be it movies games or even music, theft is theft is theft is theft and if you think otherwise your trying to cover up your unscrupulous actions.

I got hosed-bought a game and it turned out to be nothing like what I expected but I will none the less NOT cancel my pre-order.

You pay your money more for the entertainment value of a game(a service) then for the actual disk and once you get the service it is still wrong to deny payment even if your not satisfied with the service, as long as it was rendered.

Im currently a computer science major at NYU and my 2nd cousin is a manager at EA sports, so yes I do plan to get into the industry.
