too much combat?

I have heard from a lot of you that there is too much random combat. I REALLY hope this is not the case with retail version.

I like combat, but I would really like to explore space without being attacked every five minutes

Getting into combat is as easy as avoiding it. Just keep cruising on and youll pass those bad guys easily. Pirates have their own patrols too.

But what will be later on in the game? Don't the bad guys have cruise disruptors so that you can't run away?

Yes, but then youll have to learn how to make use of the engine kill key to get away So their distruptors are rendered useless.

Ahhh... engine kill! Could have thought of that myself. Silly, stupid, dumb me! *slaps the hand on his forehead*

What is engine kill ?

thanks EB, that is good to know.

I am downloading the game now and can not wait to try it out.
Do you think DA Put more "random" combat situations in this demo version than the PR you received? I am wondering this because perhaps they wanted to make sure people experience the new mouse interface in combat. Just a thought..

It's not as bad as it seems, there is certain areas you need to be SURE to avoid, such as some non-patrolled trade lanes that almost always get disrupted by enemy fighters (usually those in the middle of thick asteroid fields), while others are as safe and quiet as anywhere. Also you are not alone most of the time, in some bad areas police are always engaging in close enemy battles...rogues have more things to worry about than a lone freelancing vessel.

WEll peet, engine kill is when you kill your engine you'll keep going at the same speed in the same direction while you can turn your ship any around etc. You'll slowly start to go slower. The engine kill is great when ppl are chasing you with cruise disruptors, just when you get to top cruise speed (300) kill your engines and you;ll keep going for a while at that speed

So how do you get to cruise speed if they've disrupted your cruise drive ? Or do you have to do it before they hit you with their missiles ?
