Completed It 40hrs

Well a guy in an IRC chans just completed the full game in 40hrs, now if thats true this game will die a quick death.

He finished as a lev 20 something or other, this annoys me if its true because OLD ELITE didnt let you do certain missions till you was X level and this should have been the same, abit like Earth and Beyond. IE mass tradeing for weeks building up etc.

My friend Beta tested this game a few months back and his view was that it wont last long, due to the lack of funding, i really hope that hes wrong, and i hope they havnt rushed it, 1 cd though makes ya think dunnit. ( ps hes doing HALO pc and he says thats good ).

X2 the Threat may be what i need who knows

I think your friend has been leaking info he shouldnt and hes been exaggerating certain aspects

Is it just me or is 40 hours for the single player game actually quite good? Considering a lot of the games out there now only last 20 hours, 40 hours is kick ass. Thats ONLY single player. One of the main features of FL is that even after you beat single player, you can keep playin.

Tobez - your friend talks to much about things he doesn't know about... And compare for instance the SP campaign in MOH:AA - it took me less than 10 hours! I would say that the SP campaign takes between 20 and 40 hours, and that's depending on how much you do on the side. Also remember if you redo missions, eg. load old save-games, the timer is reset, so you only time the "shortest" route, not the "re-plays".

I think 40 hours is what they say is going to take a person to complete the single player game. But the catch is that you can continue to play beyond that, still advance levels and get the better ships/weapons that the game has to offer. The game by no means ends after the story is done. In fact, some of the more interesting systems and equipment don't become available until after you finish the main story line, from what I have read.
I, for one, will be eager to get the main story line "over with" so that I can play as a true Freelancer.

I think he just read a preview, and made up a fake story about completing it.

Someone who reduces the game to it's main story is missing the point of an open-ended game like this anyway. I bet he didn't explore half the systems there are.

I've logged 8 hours with the demo, everytime I go out I find something new. So if you average just 5 hours per system, and only do 40 systems... you see where I'm going with this. I bet just completing the missions and doing what it takes to get to the end takes 40 hours, but half the fun is finding the really neet stuff. I can't wait for the release; I wonder what I'll find then?

Man...are you missing the point in a opened ended game like Freelancer! Sure you can complete the story in about 20 - 30 hours of play....you could in Privateer also. But the great thing about Privateer was..the game did not end at that point like so many others do. I often see players on Battlenet begging for other high level players to "rush " them to D2 hell games. You remind me of one of those kind. I for one will not be in a big hurry to rush thru Freelancer.

And besides..buy the full release, legal copy of Freelancer and then I will give your review more credit. Until then..your review is pointless.

yeah that guy was full of ****. i dont even have the demo but my friend does and everytime he leaves one system he finds a new one. I wonder if theres a secret system with like god or something in it. anyway that guy was probably saying stuff and only found like 10-12 systems or something and said "welp looks like i finished, let me play mary kate and ashely goes to the mall" or some **** like that.

Uh, Heretic...

There's only one system in the demo, and the rest of what you said wasn't even coherent enough to read...

Post Sun Feb 23, 2003 11:17 pm

Well him saying his friend was doing all that testing kind of puts an odd taste on the rest of it...

Post Sun Feb 23, 2003 11:21 pm

Jeez....I have played 30+ hours just goofing around the first system waiting for the full version to come out :-)

I am sure there is/will be ALOT to do & see beyond the SP storyline game...

40 hours and "done" with Freelancer? What the hell have I been doing for the other 260+ outher hours then?

I haven't even run through the SP portion yet.

Lev has it right, anyone who just charges thru the main plot is used to SP "railroad" type games and does not realise that a game like this requires a bit more creativity.

Travel to different bases, different systems and get to know the local economies ... fly in some needed commodities not because they will bring you a profit (they will which is nice) but do it because the people treated you kindly and you want to help them out .

Go for a "Drive" for a couple of hours and check out the scenery, mabe you will stumble across somthing unique.

Fancy yourself a Bounty Hunter and go looking for only the "Bring this fugitive to Justice" type jobs.

It's not all about getting "the best" of everything (although that's always fun too), name your ship ... try different loadouts to see how bad@$$ you can make your old faithfull friend.

The possibilities are almost limitless (as far as I can see, just from the demo).

Your missing my point, the plot shouldnt be like the way it is, IE ploughable

Earth and beyond gets around this in the way you have to be x lev to progress to missions also not letting you get the uber ships till u are good enough to use them, freelancer doesnt u just saave cash which is easy to make and buy buy buy, Dont get me wrong guys its good i just think that for some reason its not what we were all expecting.

YOU WILL FIND OUT HOW IT PLAYS ABOUT A FEW HOURS IN YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THE PLOT AND CAN DO NOTHING ELSE

This is wrong. I agree 40 hours is good for a game, but not a game like ELITE it should be 40 years. If your old enough to rem elite then youl relise that it took months of hammering it to even get near the good ships and guns.

Lets post again when weve all played it, im gonna get stuck in today and i,ll let ya know.
