Can''t play on level 2!!!!!

That's not fair, you get to level 2 and the game quits out. This game don't come out for another 6 weeks in the UK I hope someone can *hack* this premature end

1. It's a demo. It's supposed to give you a taste of the game and make you want to buy it.

2. You can't just hack it, unneccessary files were removed for the demo. There's nothing to hack!

Granted, it's not possible to reach Lv2 without it ending because there's nothing after that point. But there may be an alternative. What if you could prevent the level from going up? That would work, wouldn't it?

Anyway, that was just a passing thought I had...

Hmm... Busy having a look at the main .exe with a hex editor, and of course I'll buy it when it comes out.
I've been waiting nearly 17 years since playing Elite on my Spectrum for a worthy successor, I think this could be it.

Of course there is something after that point: getting more and more money. You could trade in the New York System and do random missions without being afraid of getting kicked for hitting the max cash limit.

EDIT: by the way: to remove the cash limit would be the only to afford bribes in the demo and to actually achieve some change in matters of reputation.

Limited trial

It would still me limited enough without the cashlimit. Remember? There are 50+ systems, as well as 25+ ships, an awful lot of different weapons and equipment and some varieties of random missions and, oh... the rest of the storyline missing in the demo.

Yeah I just keep going around getting the unlawful more tick off! I just go around and shoot the bad guy's and get their cargo! But yeah cant waite to get the full copy!!

I kinda worded that wrongly...I meant that it wouldn't have any of the stuff for Lv2. Though there are those ships which you need to be Lv2 to get...so who knows.

To me, I suppose it's like the demo for that game Future Cop LAPD (ps1)...it was really enjoyable to play, but there was only a 5min time limit. With that game, I just went out and bought it...shame it'll be weeks before I can get FL though.

That's one of the things I don't understand about the demo, what is the point of offering Ships/upgrades that you cannot buy until you get to level 2, when it is impossible to achieve level 2. Surely it would have been easier to leave out all the "level 2" stuff.

Post Sun Feb 23, 2003 3:38 am

To edit everything out would of delayed the demo release, besides what the point it gives you some idea what the other weaps in the game are like.

Well, the lvl 2 stuff is in the full game. They probably just disabled the lanes out of NY (which is actually still done in the full game for the first part of SP) and put in this thing that stops the game when you're lvl 2. They could then just remove the files that wouldn't be accessed - other system file (music, textures, models etc) They'd have to actually change code in order to take out the ships from the stations.

I noticed an interesting thing when looking at the Freelancer directory structures, that the ships all have their own folder, with art and ships stat files all tucked away in them. This should make it pretty easy to manipulate those files, possible even changing the save game file to make the player have another ship. There are also a few ships that are not sold on bases in the demo, but will be available to buy in the full version.

This kind of structure could also mean that Freelancer might be fairly easy to get new ships into.
