Can my PC run FL?

I'd just like to know if my rig can run freelancer. Here are the specs:

Microsoft Windows XP
AMD Athlon 1.6GHZ
32MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX
256DDR Ram

I know my vid card may be a problem but do u guys think my PC will be able to run FL anyway? Thanks in advance for the help.

Yep,

you are way over the min. specs. Might upgrade the RAM though for smoother play.

Itll be smooth without any upgrade.

You're comp is fine. Why do ppl post this stuff? Has the media really made it seem like a year old computer is out of date? My 4 year old computer runs FL great!

Bah...dont mind me. bad day.

Just think of it as a testament to what DA's been able to accomplish, EB.

You bring up an interesting point tho' EB. I think the media HAS really made alot of people feel out of date with a year old computer.

It's hard though. Back in the day, clock speeds were doubling every couple of months, and a year old computer WAS out of date. Now though, things seemed to have slowed down a little bit. I mean, the difference btween a 1.4 GHz and a 2.8 GHz is really not much compared to the days when 486's had to compete against Pentium 60's. That was a big difference.

So the public perception is still there, but developers have to make their product available to as wide a margin as possible, which leads to the "best graphics for the least system power" philosophy. At the same time, the devs understand gamers usually try to have top end systems, and so you end up with the true beauty of the game only being displayed with top end systems/graphics cards. Like Morrowind, where the "realistic water" effect could only be seen with a fairly top end machine.

Anyway, I ramble, excuse me. All I meant to say was, whether or not your computer can run the game is a concern, but maybe the deeper question is "Will my computer run this game in all it's glory?" I know as far as I'm concerned, a game like FL, which I have waited so long for, REQUIRES that I be able to play it with full graphics sound and all the bells and whistles. Hence my new computer.

Wow that ended up being long-winded.

Not so much the media as the developers, Im not even going to attempt to run any new FPS or flight sim on my PIII 800 until I upgrade. SOFII/Battlefield '42/CFS3 looked pretty bad and had horrid FPS on my system. Thankfully Freelancer isn't as CPU/GPU hungry as most new games. Occasionaly you get one of those little gems that runs beautifully and looks beautifull on mid-low end systems, RTCW and Max Payne are two that come to mind, very good coding on the devs part.

All Q3 based games run good on lower end comps, with the exception of the heavily modified ones like SoF2.

Back on topic. This is an interesting topic we have diverted to. If you guys would like, just make a thread on this in OT.

Let this thread die after Hawk gets back to this.

I ran SOF2 on medium max settings, Battlefield 1942 runs at maximum details, no idea what's CFS3...
And I have a pentium 3 666mhz. What is your video card, Mustang? Mine is GeForce 2 GTS pro with 64 MB.
