damage affecting manueverability

I understand you can lose different parts of your ship during batlle and lose the weapons etc. that were mounted on that part (ie the wing).

However, does anyone know if losing a piece of your spaceship affect the manueverability of your spacecraft? Do you wiggle without the wing or be forced a certain direction more than another?

Physically speaking, only if you were in an atomosphere or if a thruster was damaged. However, I wasn't privy to a PR beta.

Good question dredloch. I can remember in Privateer..you could lose some of your manueverability if you had severe damage. Makes sense that way. I know this is another comparison to Privateer...but I can not help it.

Physically speaking, if a wing of a spaceship gets destroyed, it will influence the manueverability even if there is no atmosphere or damage to the thrusters, because the remaining mass of the ship will not be symetrical to the thrusters anymore.

in the game loosing a wing itself doesn't effect your manuverability (someone correct me if im wrong) but you can lose your afterburners, which will greatly hinder your ability to dogfight

Ok, you would have to correct for the assymetrical factors and possibly a wobble depending on nearby (in terms of AUs) gravity wells.

Thanks for the responses.

I remember that too, white Tiger, in Privateer... Being hit too much made me a sitting duck!

Heh, no, in FL when ur ship gets its wings blown off and stuff, your maneuverability (sp) stays the same. DA's argument for this was simply that in dogfights, you'll be attacked from every direction, if you get your wings blown off and cant turn as well, you're in even deeper dog shat.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't stuff like that happen in Privateer? I seem to remember only being able to turn right or something in my ship after being ripped a new one by Kilrathi. I won't miss it if it's not in Freelancer, thats for sure. I hated when that crap happened.

Well, I see it like this....

When you have successfully completed your mission and with a satisfied feeling you are cruising towards the nearest planet to feast upon Cardamine and booze...errrm....limonade and toast of course and right before you enter the docking-ring, you get a few hits because of a surprise party and when you loose total control over your ship because of that, you slam into the docking-ring and then....GAME OVER

Sounds awfully frustrating to me

Realism is all well and good, but when it starts to mess with the game play...

It won't affect your maneuvering, but you will lose whatever equipment was mounted on that piece of hull, affecting your performance that way. You will thank DA for small blessings like that when you play the game
