Saved Games

hey guys (and girls), I was wondering...
If you have a living universe and multiple saves, say for trying out different things...(livin universe so many options) then when the comp saves all this stuff, won't it like take 10000gigs of hard drive?? seriously that is alot of stuff to storeinto memory so what's your intake on this?

Umm.....no. Since you dont save in space, your saved games have no need to save the positions of every single ship in the area.

The file size for a single player save file ranges from 70KB to around 120KB, much less than many other games' save file sizes out there in the market.

The only way of saving "in space" is by the game's own auto save during the singleplayer missions or when you just came out of a jump gate.

Re: save file size...

so what does a save game file have to store?
"your location," which would just serve as a load point and nothing else, something tells me that if you loaded the same game twice, you'd encounter different ships in thta system each time
"Faction rating" i suppose it would be a simple numeric value for each faction that the game engine would use to determine how ships react
"ship and load out" once again simple lines of code detailing what ship and what cargo
"Ship damage" hmm.. 'set_leftwingdestroyed=1' same with whatever hardpoints on said wing
"Cash" numeric value
"Mission completed" ditto
"Level" ditto
"neural net and system chart" prolly will end up being the biggest part of the file. my guess would be that save files would be smaller at the start of your game and larger at the end, as the file has to note every system and item IN said sytem that is mapped.

i think that's about it.. add anything else that might be included.
if anything it will give those 'game trainer' writers a head start

...Just a random thought from a random mind
