Fees for travel?

I don't remember seeing anything in print that addresses this issue although I may be mistaken: In privateer 2...that poorly created sequel to Privateer (the best of all time IMHO) one needed to pay 200 credits to make a gate-assisted jump to another system. Must one pay a users fee to use the tradelanes and jumpgates in Freelancer or are they a perk of being friendly with whatever faction owns them?

Nope. Most tradelanes and jump gates are financed by the governments and do not collect tolls.

heh.. just makes you wonder how high property taxes are for residents....
you'd need ALOT of capital to finance tradelanes and jumpgates and navy.. even if the police is privatized

so what's the deal w/getting keys to open trade lanes, or has that been scratched???

If you don't have the access codes, you don't get to jump. Fairly simple This is for SP btw.

In Single Player, due to the story level, you'vv find yourself unable to enter certain gates until you acquire various codes.

In Multi-player... all gates are open as there is no Story that your are required to follow

That's something I was curious about, is the MP world different from the single player one? I know at one point we were promised co-op ( I think at least, read about it in a PC Gamer preview ) but some people are saying there's really no story at all in MP.

You wouldnt want a story anyways cuase most people just wanna do what they want with their pals and go do some trading and get bigger better ships.

The co-op wasn't like the SL one where you play through the storyline but grouping up and taking random missions, trading, exploring together and stuff.

I never used the jumpgates in Priv2 because I was too cheap. You never had to hurry to get anywhere and it made more sense to me to take the long way around and get some kills since you got paid for them. If you were in trouble and needed to get somewhere fast to repair, or at least save your game, the jumpgates weren't conveniently placed.

Let's get those missiles ready to destroy the universe!!
