I have to poke fun, sorry everyone.

This is my favorite post, and Vyse I mean it in good faith:

"I don't think the ability to blow up a space station is a good idea. I know it's just a game but at times you do need some feel of reality. One figher, or even a group of fighters, could not take down a space station. Even if they had the equipment to do it, doing so would take an extraordinarily long amount of time. By the time you manage to do considerable damage that particular station's reinforcements would kick the living hell out of you and your wingman. You would need the support of a capital ship to pull off a job like that."

1. Define reality, its a space sim

2. Have you watched the Star Wars -A New Hope recently? Or ever?

Just made me laugh. Your arguments are right on track for discussion in this thread, I just couldn't help poking a few holes. Hope you don't mind just a little tender roasting.

"If this is what you want to do, you'll do it, no matter how long it takes..........and usually the longer it takes the more fun you've had!"

"Reality" is not a good word to describe it. I'd go for "hypothetical logic/common sense". I agree with Vyse. There has to be a limit somewhere to maintain balance. While "science fiction" is undoubtedly fiction, it still has to cling to "science" or whatever pretext of science there is.

I don't know though, modern day bombers can carry some big arse mean bombs that could level several city blocks.

So return to hypothetical reality-

I fast ship with one big bomb.

Eg: Luke in Star Wars

Eg: America in Hiroshima

Luke in Star Wars is not a good example. Come on, this movie had people shooting lightning bolts from their fingers . And beam of light that stops after reaching 4-feet length. While SW is a very fun movie, it almost crossed the boundary to fantasy.

A-bomb on Hiroshima only worked because the Japanese had become desensitized to daily (even hourly) American bombings. Their intel was insufficient to know that on that particular day, a different breed of bomb is going to be dropped. I seriously doubt that you can desensitize the AI in the game, or for that matter, make it possible for them to know that you're carrying a WMD and headed for a specific planet/base, and therefore throw everything they have to prevent you.

Destroy planets/spacestations ?

Bad idea IMHO ! It certainly wouldn't add to MY gaming pleasure. You honestly think that the security of a space station would let you destroy it without backlash in its worse way ? Their defense mechanism (turrets, security forces etc.) would take you out before you even got the chance to open one of your launchbays.

Damage spacestations ?

That would actually be a really nice feature, but again not a real necessity IMO.

lol ok. But you hsould at least be able to damage a station.

It would be quite nice to be able to destroy a patrolling Liberty Battleship if the need ever came about.

I don't think it would have made a difference if the Japanese knew that Enola Gay was carrying the Little Boy bomb and what Little Boy could do. By August 1945 their air defences were nearly nonexistent. All their best pilots were dead and nearly all of their remaining planes were being held in reserve to make Kamikaze attacks against the invasion fleet we were planning to send against the south island in November.

As for the Death Star example, the engineers in the Sirius sector probably have all seen star wars so they know better than to build a space station with a super sensitive exhaust port.

Let's get those missiles ready to destroy the universe!!
