Does anyone know, will it be possible to attack a planet or to be hired to defend a planet? By attack a planet I mean just the main base that you would doc at. Also Is it possible to attack major space stations? Chanes are it would be super dificult to do but you never know.
Only way to attack a planet is firing at it's docking ring or its mooring ficture. You can also attack space stations, just fire at them.
Though you can not blow up space stations/planets or batteships, you can temporarely destroy their turrets, but they just smoke and come back to life in a few mins.
You can however destroy space stations if you are on a mission to destroy one

It would create a huge mess. Imagine a force of very powerful players going around on a popular server and destroying every base and planet docking ring in the game. Not only would you have a bunch of NPCs with no where to go, you would have to reset the server because it would screw over everybody who had an account there.
"Thats crap! Why cant you blow one up and then get away from the owners. (like in GTA when not on a mission you can blow the crap out of the city) why cant you do that in fl?"
Actually, you can only kill people/blow up vehicles in the GTA series, but not actually destroy a building. You can shoot it with a rocket launcher and there will be a "burning" effect, but it will quickly go away, with the building being good as new afterwards.
Apparently, you can basically do the same in Freelancer - you can go on an interstellar killing spree, blowing up lots of weaker ships, but you'd better steer clear of your victims' territory after that.
And unlike the GTA series, you aren't even confined to being on the wrong or right side of the law. You can support the police by blowing up pirate craft, or earn the respect of pirates by plundering freighters and blasting police ships.
on missions though say a pirate gang goes to destroy a police facility, you and your squadron CAN blow it up right?? (usin torps and cap ships of course)

But, maybe on a popular server they could toggle it off right? something like a toggle between destroyable planetside and docking ring stations? A popular server like ELITE could have it off, but woulnt it be cool to host a game with a friend and go and totally clear a system, including stations? and still be able to goto ur favorite server and have everything intact. Or they could respawn....or something.....i remember reading something about when you want to secure, lets say for example a pirate controlled sector, you can destroy the pirates, their turrets, and their outpost, making it safe for good, some preview, forgot where.

P: Yes - of course
C: It would be nice - yes - but would you have delayed the game 2 months for that specific feature? I wouldn't.... =

I don't think the ability to blow up a space station is a good idea. I know it's just a game but at times you do need some feel of reality. One figher, or even a group of fighters, could not take down a space station. Even if they had the equipment to do it, doing so would take an extraordinarily long amount of time. By the time you manage to do considerable damage that particular station's reinforcements would kick the living hell out of you and your wingman. You would need the support of a capital ship to pull off a job like that.
It would be nice if it was POSSIBLE to damage the space station enough that no1 could land there for a certain amount of time while it repairs itself, but as was stated above, u would need serious man power and weapons to pull that off.
on top of that, what would be the point. ppl would no longer be able to land so there would be no trade. where there is no trade there will be no pirates, and where there is no pirates there would be no bounty hunters... and so on...
So as cool as it would be to be able to do that, theres pretty much no point to doing it.

It makes sense to me that there would be some objects in the FL universe that one guy in a fighter can't destroy. It wouldn't make sense for the houses to spend billions of dollars to build stations or capships if one yahoo with a torpedo could blow one away. The taxpayers wouldn't stand for it.
Let's get those missiles ready to destroy the universe!!

As long as in certain missions you can blow up a station or something then that is cool. I can just see it now, you get involved with a huge war and there are hundereds of fighters and several battle ships and your goal is to completely destroy a certain base......
It would be cool though if you could weaken their defenses and then load some kind of huge bomb and then fire it at the ship in order to cripple it.
Or maybe let you cripple a base but not totally kill it and then it just rebuilds itself in like one game month. That way you could temporarily shut down certain trade or military lanes. I agree though chances are unless you have a lot of extra supporting fighters you wont be able to do it alone. Some kind of tac-nuke would be cool though.
