Dynamic commodity prices

Just a quick thing I wanted to clear up, some people are saying that the commodity prices in the PR beta are in fact NOT dynamic, which wasn't my original understanding of this.

Was this a feature that they didn't have time to finish or something? I'm pretty sure that DA said at one point that dynamic prices were in, but maybe that's changed.

i got the impression dynamic prices would make it in as part of the games dynamic economy. sadly, from what i know, the dynamic economy and everything that was a part of it has been largely scrapped. BUT the only thing this costs the player is dynamic prices. it is a little strange to have a set price for an item for the entire course of the game, never fluctuating, but thats the way it will be. fluctuating prices would add that little bit more flavour to the trading business, but it wasnt to be - sorry guyz

Could be one of the things that just aren't in the beta. Never know I don't think we discussed this at DA so it will be hard to give a definite answer for some time.

I am sure they will but the dynamic pricing back in... (at least I hope). Dynamic pricing has been mentioned in plenty of articles on different websites.

This would add a lot to the game especially for those who want to specialize in commidity trading.

Of course, I am just a measly 2nd leiutenant...

Oh well, I'm sure the game will still be fun

Yah, the static pricing works well. That makes the listing of commodity prices in your Neural Net easier to handle.

There's a list, that is updated with every new place u land on, that contains all the prices for the certain commodity there and the one on the top represents the best deal. Quite an ingenious way of doing it, IMHO.

Hmm when you put it like that EB, it sounds like a better option than dynamic pricing. It will be good to be able to find the best price rather than scratching your head trying to remember where that place was that was paying that really good price for prduct X that you landed at 27 stops ago.

Yeah, I hadn't thought of that, I can see that becoming a pain rapidly. Doesn't sound like a very difficult feature to implement, so it was probably pulled for just that reason. Thanks guys.

Yeah, I agree with Mustang that it does sound like a good option, though I need to see it for myself of course to give it my final thought.

Well said.. Good point.

Luckily there are a large variety of these commodities to remember also

Origin implemented a semi random pricing system for Wing Commander: Privateer way back in 1993.

I remember from Privateer that the pricing system was random, yet within certain ranges. On occasion, especially for slaves and Ultimate, the prices at New Detroit would skyrocket to 793 and 1123 respectively per unit, when normal price ranges from 690-750 for slaves and 950-990 for Ultimate. My favorite run was from Oakham pirate base in the Pentonville system to New Detroit in the New Detroit system.

Privateer even had a reputation system similar to the one implemented in Freelancer, except in Privateer you found out whether a faction hated your guts or not when the proverbial $hit hits the fan and your shields get blasted! :-)

(Privateer didn't have any reputation meters as in Freelancer)

I do not want to be pessimistic, but don' t you think it may be a little boring, if the best trades are automatically shown in your NeuralNet?

Personally I would liked to have a semi-random pricing like in Privateer wich would have given me at least the impression of a dynamic economy.

No dynamic pricing, though it is not something I miss that much... and you still have to visit all the 168 places you can land to have all the prices mapped out... And that exploration alone takes a LOOOONNNNGGG time... Dunno if Stinger managed in his already over 250 hours!

I have visited all places, but the problem is not in the same build. Some places are really off the beaten path too!! I'm working on that still with the latest build and I've got a ways to go. I've got 111 places mapped in the build I'm using now (last build I had 159 mapped dang it!!). My biggest problem is 2 things....time to do it (the biggest) and having to do some serious adjustments on my characters profile so I can be allowed to land at some of these places. (Britonia AND the Kusari simply hate my guts right now...jeez!) That in itself takes time and resources (money for bribes).

With all the time invested this weekend in getting the massive server set in stone and working out the details, I just didn't have the time to go into the game and finish off the places I still need to land and log into my Neural Net. Sorry Gibby, I know I said I'd have this done by now. This upcoming weekend offers me an extra day (holiday) and I promise TLR community, I will have these commodity prices set in stone by close of business Monday.

Labor of love I tell ya....

What do you mean Kusari and Bretonia hate your guts?

Get some fresh sushi, that should work 8) Bretonia, don't waste your breath, their food sucks 8) Unless you like Kidney Pie?

Lol
