Space Hazards.

I was wondering if the beta testers would be willing to answer a few questions. First, are there still Blackholes in the game and if there are what effect does flying into them cause. ALso is it possible to fly into stars or planets and be destroyed. For instance say you hit your afterburners and head straight for a planet/star what would happen.

Hehehehehe.

Black holes have not been discovered yet, but flying into a planet or star is certain death.

If you fly into a planet is ther a nice burn up effect or just an explosion.

hehe, yes excellent effect. Your wings smoke and you start to sweat profusely. This goes for both planets and stars.

excellent, I was sorta getting sick of Iwar 2's fly straight through the planet/star come out the other side and 3 seconds later have a hull breach and die.

You forgot the radiation that the sun emits. It damages your hull directly.

even through shields?

...Just a random thought from a random mind

Even through shields. Certain nebulas emit radiation as well, which damages your hull. Some others emit other things...

why does space travel have to be soo risky... by the way, don't u come out of a 'white' hole if u go into a black one ?? and why does the space sims have to be soo scientific ?? :S although i like space, and things, and nebulas emit X-rays, gamma and infra-red rays and a hole bunch of other stuff, like radio-waves, electro-magnetic waves and such, all the waves basically, even the surfing waves

This war - is a game of chess - and i have a plan - and its my turn - to hit back.

Man, this game is awsome. I havent found something this game doesn't have

IN response to what KimK posted. It is not known what happens when you go into a black hole. It is known that you get spaggetified and ripped apart atom by atom but it is not known were or even if you do come out of a black hole. Also space flight needs to be somewhat scientific or it gets rather boring. ALso if you fly to close to a star wouldn it make sense to suffer radiation damage.

Bout them black holes...

First of all, no white hole has ever been observed...Black holes have.
Second the mass that goes in accumilates. IE the black hole grows larger and larger till it has "eaten" anything within it's gravity well. After that they are dorment. Black holes are theorized to be finite as well, the irradiate their energy and once thats done they might explode. My advice? stay away. It's not that you die instantly...(RL) it's after you crossed the event horizon it gets very interesting...Your fall towards the black hole might last forever (for you) since time has very strange effects in the singularity. Most likely however you will be torn apart by the tidal forces. Since your body has length, there will be diffrent gravitational vectors (or forces) on each end, you will be torn apart again and again till reduced to atoms and those will be then flashed to energy while compressed further by the hole...Some of you might be ejected as gama rays or X-Rays from the jets that the black holes emit 8)

In theory you might be able escape (quantom mechanics), don't count on it!!!

This gives me a heck of an idea 8)

"The Freelancer guide to the universe"

in installments 8), your help appreciated. Check out a new topic by that name...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.

the hitch hikers guide to the universe series is absolutely awesome. Too bad Douglas Adams died : (
