How big will a star system be?

I was asking how large a star system be? Will it be Allegiance sized or something like Freespace 2 sized where it just keeps going and going and going, unless you use a trade lane

All systems are not the same size, but I can tell you this...you can run right off the map if you choose. Won't find much out there, but if that's your thing, then more power to ya.

Havent played Allegiance so i dunno how their systems work, but yah, its like your description for Freespace 2. You can travel forever just going out of the map but you must use the jumpgate/jumphole to travel from system to system.

I would hate to get lost for hours on end

I have quite the limited amount of time..and dont want to spend 3 hours trying to find my way back

I want to loot..kill..and loot some more..

..oh and maybe save some out of luck tourist who fell in the wrong neighborhood

I'm sure this has been answered before, but in the IGN preview, it says you can fly from one star system to another, and I've also heard that you must use a jump gate to get from one system to another. Are both ways possible? Or do you have to use a jump gate?

You MUST use a jumpgate for inter-system travel. You cant just fly there even if you set it in cruise and sit there for months.

You'll hit the edge of the system. The game's engine only lets you travel so far. I forgot the number but it was extremely high.
