Question about salvage...

Poped into my mind while watching the IGN vid's

Say you tractored in all you can carry in your hold, but there is still cargo out there floating. Can you go to the nearest base/planet, sell the salvage and go back to the site to collect the rest? is it persistent? Will other ships collect jettisoned cargo?

Thanks

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.

No - it would be gone!

just like IWar 2...makes sense probably because you don't want the "universe" to be filled with junk and debries...it will just slow down the game eventually

Makes sense, however, the other part of his question is quite interesting. Will other ships collect debris? Say, you'r in a battle with some pirate scum, just you and another poor scavenger (a victim of bad timing). You rip the pirates to shreds...will he try to salvage some of the debris? I remember a game called Hardwar and the scavengers would try to collect on your kill. That was frustrating but a nice touch...you might have to ahem, remove, the scavenger in order to collect your rightful bounty.

Actually no, NPC do not tractor in goods.

Not really on topic but in order for an enemy to drop cargo after its been destroyed, I think you have to be the one to do the most damage to it. So you if jsut calmly wait for the NPC to battle each other and just take potshots to finish the enemies off, they wont drop any commodities or equipment.

Hmm, that's a shame. I think taht would have added a lot to the game...but oh well. Thanks for the info, EB.

I'm just happy that there is salvage.

May luck is either good or bad so I'm First to kill or first to dead

If you watch the vid's released on TLR or IGN you will notice a white lightning like "ray", this is the tractor beam, looks quite cool.

From what i understand and managed to "pump" out of the preview beta testers, there's no need to target the salvage pods, also it appears you can tarctor multiple pods...

Shame about no salvage unless induced by you 8( Kinda liked how in IWAR2 the mega freighters would collide coming out of the jump gate and scatter dozens of crates all around.

Perhaps we/DA might add this la8r?

Concerning the thing I said, that's only for single player. In multiplayer, everybody sees the commodities and you'll all be fighting for the goods dropped by dead enemies.

Can you scan cargo before you tractor in? So you know what your getting?

Do NPC pirates actually raid ships in the game or do they just fly around.

Post Sat Feb 08, 2003 12:57 am

they raid ships, there is such a thing as "Lane hacking" where you shoot the tradelanes and ships drop out at that point, then you see the pirates attacking those ships (and you too), though i have never seen them tractoring cargo
