how big are the systems?

if i was flying around in a system how long does it normally take to encircle the whole thing?
what i mean is if i was to explore a whole system, go everywhere in it and just look around is it gonna take me hours or less?

I believe it's been documented somewhere in an interview that systems are not the same size. The feeling I get is if you wanted to explore everything in a system, it will take a long time to see it all. Even longer to see all items in all systems. Here's a tidbit right out of our FAQ.

Well it takes anywhere from five to ten minutes to reach a certain point of interest if there are no trade lanes available. Also, even in systems with trade lanes there are "hidden" things like pirate bases and jump holes to find, as well as other stuff. To help you, your long range sensors will detect and log "patrol routes" which is where ships have gone after a period of time. If you activate this filter on your nav map and look for junctions of routes, you will often find something interesting there.

how much longer after they go through an area will youre computer be able to log them

When police patrols change direction, the new path will be logged by ur NeuralNet.

Cool, following trails sounds like a lot of fun.

-Ion trail detected captain!
-Follow it! Full speed ahead.

A star system is a number of planets and star bases and stuff. There are about 48 star systems in Freelancer. That means you got A LOT of places to go and explore.

From what I've been reading a system is considered a solar system. I know what you mean though. Plenty of games, especially space strategy games, make the mistake of declaring a system while there is only a single planet. It gets confusing when you go to one system and it has the same star as a system five jumps away.

I'm very pleased to see the developers went with the current universe system, it was ambitious but the results are awesome... and can only lead to bigger and more expansive systems in future game releases eg. next time... fly system to system... now THAT's immersive!!!

Sure am... just finished watching the 1st season on DVD... going to watch it again until Season 2 is released

I am a long time ST fan... but B5 has that X-Factor... probably the way in which the storyline is woven through every episode... and it has more chance of being like it will be in 2-300 years time...

Never saw much of b5 (only showed a few episodes here if i recall well)
and about the following trails, it sounds just like in those old movies when some guy sniffs the ground and sais: they were here 4 hours ago, 3 of them, all of them mexican, one of them had a serious weight problem...

(i don't care if this post makes totally no sence caus i'm prob so stoned that i wont remember tomorow that i posted this)

Your not related to Z are ya?
I know this has been asked before but I forget the answer (dont flame me its not my fault I've had one concussion to many ) but what was the verdict on the flying system to system manually? Can it be done without using the trade lanes?
