playing FL 1

I am about to embark with a new system (VOOT!) that actually runs FL1
perfectly!!!! on my first missions.....do you all have a recomendation, should I try the vanilla game ...i would like to add Crossfire mod.....and should I use the
quick fix patch? I saw that it helps with some sound issues, etc. but wanted to ask the advice of the veterans there.

i got the cross fire file, and the mod manager and the quick fix file.
so I am ready to proceed ....but i saw that some mods may not run if you have
saved games from the original game in your saved files folder.....hence my
question re trying crossfire or doing the original game.

thanks for any advice!

PLAY THE ORIGINAL GAME!!!

I never know why on earth people buy games and then try the mods out before finding out how awesome the game is, and how badly most mods will mangle it.

If you get bored of the original game after playing the storyline and trying out the multiplayer aspect of it as well, then by all means try some mods. But to dive right into mods will cripple the games enjoyment for you imo. The game is superb without mods, and doesn't need any to run correctly on 99% of systems.

Once bored of the original game, try some mods as it will add some variety to the game, some neat features and fun things - but it's a massive mistake to play a mod without enjoying the game. Mods, no matter how well balanced, aren't anywhere near as good as the original game, and more often stuff up most of the aspects in the game by trying to make "wow" factors.

Wait, Clarify, you're playing Free Lancer 2?

Post Mon May 01, 2006 8:25 pm

First play the original game.

Now, again, clarify for us. Your playing FL2? Some kind of mod? If theres a mod out there called FL2, openlancer would be very interested in looking into their content and storyline...

I agree, Wow, Freelancer 2, Are you like some kind of Beta Tester?

And if your going to mod it, use FLMM to ensure theres no almighty cock-up

If you read his Title it says "playing FL1!"
So most likey he did a small mistake with the spelling.

Post Mon May 01, 2006 11:42 pm

on second thought, why the heck did he say "playing FL 1" if there isn't an FL2 to confuse it with?

This thread should be deleted. Reason: "Causing mass confusion"

oh my, sorry about that, it WAS my funble fingers that typed FL2, I meant FL
and just FL, I will try to edit my first post asap.

Thanks Chips, I think that is first rate advice re palying the original game first.
I will do that tonight, thanks so much for all the posts.

I was thinking of fL2 because I just signed the petition to get it done, and want to try to put some presure on Bill G and MS to make it, I really love what I have seen of FL so far, I have been in as far as the beginning of the first mission and was wowed by the graphics and all of it! So thanks and I appologize again for the FL2 rumor which I did not intend to start by any means. Thansk again and thanks for the great forum and community I feel much reassured to have you all here as I begin my journey into the FL universe. I do have Starlancer as well, and will enjoy trying that as well.

Thanks again,
signing off for now, heading for the flight deck.
Chris G.

If your looking for FL2, you might find something similar on the openlancer boards.

Sadly, we are dealing with a crisis at the moment, so perhaps this is not the best time to investigate...
