Best Mods to try for freelancer

Its been a long while since I've been here, I was a great fan of freelancer but I don't like replaying the same game over and over. I experimented with mods a year ago and it was alot of fun. I'm sure alot of mods have been upgraded or released since then so I was wondering if anybody had any mods to recommend. There is a huge range of mods to checkout and see which one is for me so anyone got any tips ?
I'm not looking for small mods to make me shoot bolts of lightning or turn a light fighter into a mini-battleship or any of these unbalanced and one day mods or hacks rather. I'm looking for something with more depth to it that is more enjoyable on the long run, something that might have the following :
1) New interesting singleplayer
2) Coop Action
3) Great multiplayer gameplay

So if you've tried any big mod and thought its worth checking please reply.

Thanks guys, I've checked out these suggestions and they do seem very promising, I'll have to try them out indivisually before making up my mind. I couldn't get much info on the Blaster mod however, the description for it on this website didn't say much beyong 5 new systems and some ships. I couldn't find a website for it either :/.

Hey All,

Just rebought the game and wanted to try some mods out. Downloaded the Tweaker Mod 1.11 and am finding even the little rogue ships to be a real pain in the rear to take down. They are so maneuverable that with the little weapons you get to start takes you forever to kill them.

Was this a good mod to start with for single player (and only single player) or are there better ones out there? I looked at the Phoenix 1.9 info, looks good but since it is a continuing story I wanted to play through the original story first.

Thanks all.

Have you tried playing the game without mods? I don't understand why some people buy the game and instantly want to try a mod out, they are missing out what is by far an awesome game to try some cobbled together piece of hacking which unbalances the game or shoves a load of ill-fitting ships into it (mods can be great fun, but you'll never actually appreciate what an excellent game Freelancer is unless you play it thoroughly first!).

If you've not played the game "as is" already, then I strongly suggest you do. If you have played single player through - then I strongly suggest you try some servers. Only if you've done all that should you then try out some of the mods.

Yep, played the single player through multiple times, never with any mods attached. I sold the game a couple months back and just rebought it yesterday.

I have never played any multiplayer, thought I would try that after reaquainted with flying the ships

Speaking of which - there seem to be a ton of servers, any recommendation for new players ?

if you're new I'd recommend jumping on an unmodded server to get a feel of the multiplayer experience, if you're bored you could then try other mods... which is why I started this topic
