Other than MMOP games (which have alot of bad feedback) and one or two cont. series eg X^3(I think, I havent played it) and the battlecruiser seires(I bought Universal combat dint work though) I dont know of any other space sim's that have been released. Is flreelancer the end of a dead spieces???(and yes I know of OL)
EVE-online is a good game for space games, it cost 14.95$ a month but it is worth playing(The support of the servers is cool and it's just like paying for WOW or other online games.), They own one server and everyone plays on that same server and it reaches pretty much 23 k people everyday, plus I would say there is no lag at all (I've never got lag on their IBM server), But it's pretty much everything that Freelancer fans are trying to get on freelancer, Radar Jammers, ECM, Drones/Mining Drones, Cloaking, warp jammers, vampires, Power upgrades, armor upgrades, shield upgrades, weapon upgrades, cargo upgrades, The Market reacts to anything that happens in the universe, there are also Player Owned Corps, and Those CEO's get to build their own station, which is very cool, etc. the list could go on for awhile. I can say it's one of the best MMP game out there today. Only problem you have to spend time with the game in order to get good at it, it's not one of those games where you spend one day and know all about it.
Another one that is coming out would be DSO(Darkstar One), I don't really know much about the game only that it is suppose to have a very nice Story to go along with the game. Looks like it could be a nice game, but they might not come out with MP for the game at all.
I can't think of any other spacegames other then those. I just don't think people are working much on space games sadly that I know of.
But try out the 14 day trail on EVE, it;s worth to see, really changed my mind about the game, it's the best.

space sims are alive and well with lots of indie titles that slip past most peoples radar - notably starshatter and opensource wing commander(which is written in an OS independent language so it can play on anything, basically) - but also a russian title i forgot the name of,DSO obviously....and a new star trek MMORPG-type in development its not the last spacesim by far. and don't forget that some people like me, hate FPS and where it has gone w/ one hit kill wonder weapons and random spawning and all the other problems you see in every fragfest FPS (unreal tourney, CS, halo2, etc etc) and just won't buy them any more - if you ask me i think FPS games are on their way out, but maybe thats just wishful thinking
I was looking around a week or two ago for something to take my mind off X3 and tried F.E.A.R. - great atmosphere - but something missing. I've spent most of my gaming life playing sims (not Sims puh-leeese) and FPS. FarCry (which came with my new vid. card) left me feeling motion sick and F.E.A.R. bored.
Back to the subject - VegaSpace is a good free space sim, and the X series seems unstoppable.

Than russian title you mentioned must be Space Rangers.
Some other titles you folks might be interested in:
Evochron: Alliance
Star Wolves
Future, promising looking titles:
Sins of a solar empire
Sword of the stars
Great for quick adventures:
Strange adventures in infinite space, and it's successor,
Weird Worlds

I mentioned on TLR long ago one of my favourites -- HardWar. It came out about 6 years or so ago and is a lot like Freelancer, only it takes place on Titan, one of the moons of Jupiter (the one astronomers have found has water, ice etc on it).
It has an alien mystery and you start out in a basic ship, which you have to make money to upgrade. You get given missions periodically, which help you solve the mystery. The colonists on Titan have been cut off from earth for centuries, and have divided into rival factions.
It's a steal on eBay these days. Comes on 2 CDs. The main game loads on to your HD, whilst the CDs in the drive contain the live actors who provide you with missions, tips etc.
Sadly, like FL, there was no sequel to HardWar, which was meant to have some. Seems most folks don't go for this type of game. I remember when FL came out and a poster complained bitterly when he finished the SP game and discovered nobody told him exactly what to do anymore. He said he was returning the game and getting his money back!

There was also Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. While its not exactly like freelancer its a great space game. Its running on the engine that X2 is running on, so its safe to say the graphics are amazing. Instead of commanding a single ship you get to command a tiny fleet and do several missions. This is basicly a cross between games like freelancer and more strategy oriented games like Homeworld 2. I definatly recommend that
If you ever see Tachyon: The Fringe in a bargain bin... buy it.
Here's a cool game, and it's free (but sadly, just SP):

This indy house has lots of space sims:

"Got anything for me?" - Trent, A.K.A. 'Mr. Eloquent'

@Puke Barwalker - yeah, linear gameplay fans make me sick too - they want a game to hold their hand all the way through, and probably end up using walkthroughs anyway! The thing i found disappointing about that aspect of FL was that it was missing the pathed-campaigns that made the wing commander series so kick-ass, you know where one mission outcome effects all the following missions in a realistic way like 'You failed to protect the Xwhatever, please report to the debriefing room' and then you would be chewed out and the commander would explain how your screw up had set the entire war back by several weeks etc,and sometimes when you failed a really important mission it would lead down a dead end in the next missions, and you'd have to get 100% perfect on those before you figured out that the previous mission destroyed the terrans chances for sucess... that's what I'm looking for in SP really, and of course i demand they make an MP mode even if its pvp only
