Online Newbie Question

Never having played online, I ask with a great embarrassment:

Can I just roam the mod server universe on my own and "do my thing" or do I have to join a side and follow a specific path?

(*hears chuckling and some laughter in the distance*)

Well the title is FreeLancer. LEt's see that one more time.."Free"Lancer.
Yes pretty much you can do what you want when ever you want to do it, it pretty much says on the box "The Universe of Possibilty". You pick what you want to do and do it.
Since you new to online I would find a server that doesn't have any addons and get use to how everything works online. Becuase it's better to start with nothing and work your way up to bigger mods or addons, that way you won't get bored of the game very quickly.
But remember that there are other people online who play, soime are pirates, some are traders and some are navy or freelancers.
Always behave and your rep. is everything you got.
