Change of heart...
I confess I have made 3 attempts to complete the single player game.
I had a reasonable degree of success but became frustrated at some point
and quit due to the percieved level of difficulty.
Since then I have begun playing a popular FPS on line, and quickly learned what real difficulty is.
I recently gave Freelancer another try. I was a real fan of the well known "Privateer" RPGs, and so I still felt Freelancer, in spite of my difficulty, was probably the best example of its kind.
After taking a real look at this game in depth, I now realize there are subtlties and depth of design that I never noticed before, and I am determined to complete the SP game. Beyond that, I will look at some of the mods, and maybe move forward to online play. I now conclude that the effort that went into Freelancer was underappreciated by me, and perhaps others.
This game concept is still a gem, and my hope is that another like it will be attempted in the future.
