OK I give up, what am I doing wrong?

Ok What am I missing?

I'm flying a Piranha with a heavy thruster, I am racing Hovis in the Dublin system with it's ridiculously long cut scenes including a mechanised race way which is malfunctioning and Hovis saying it's malfunctioning and him saying how tough, how mean, blah, blah, blah, he is. Now, I race him, I hit cruise and accelerate, I go through all the hoops without touching them, and at hoop 10, I drop out of Cruise only to go straight into the build up for cruise again. hoop 18 and it happens again! I lose and start again, hoop 1 this time and drop out of cruise!

Again and again I come back, expertly flying my brains out, only to drop out of cruise and lose the damn race! God, I flew Liberty System, fought pirates, And then the security forces, I fought Rhineland fighters and Bounty Hunters, often fleeing both. Never did I drop out of cruise without being hit by a CD. So how come my Thruster has suddenly become so unreliable?

God It's not as if I can skip the damn mission. Or shoot him down.

Make sure you are not using the "go to" option. That will stop you up short every time. If you are in the lead when it kicks out of cruise where you say, maybe you can simply win the race with your thrusters?

Another possibility is that your program is messed up. That could require a reload.

Any other ideas from the PC swots out there???
