Before I Start

If I intend to install mods, is it required to start from a clean install?

Not all the time, if you use FLMM then it does it for you, and when you de-activate your mods, you go back to vanilla fl

If you haven't used mods before or messed about with your FL files then the answer is NO, what you need to do is get and install the SDK 1.3 into your FL program folder, the SDK fixes some of DA's original cockups and makes using some mods easier. Then get and install FLMM 1.3, the best and easiest way of getting a mod into Freelancer.
