widescreen

Just a question, I would like to run freelancer in a widescreen resolution on my laptop. Is there anyway to manually force the game to run at a specific resolution? Thanks

I don't think so. I just use 1024x768 and put up with the stretched aspect ratio.

Well, I can get it to run at 1920x1200 (easy enough, just change it in the prefs file), however the GUI is mostly off the screen at this resolution, for whatever reason it shows the 3D graphics at that res, but the GUI stays at 1600x1200 I'm assuming, so I can't see most of it. Any ideas?

Take a look at the cameras.ini in your freelancer\data\ folder. For manipulation of the GUI position you need to change the fovx = value in the [WinCamera section. The higher the number the more the GUI gets placed toward the center of your screen. Lower numbers mean the GUI is placed in the outer areas of the screen.

Althou fovx = suggests manipulation of the x axis only, both x and y axis are manipulated.

If the aspect ratio looks stretched, you may want to change the fovx = values of the [CockpitCamera, [ThirdPersonCamera and [DeathCamera sections to slightly higher numbers.

There isn't some command line switch to tell freelancer the resolution it has to run at?

:Edit
I almost forgot: you could try to run the game in a window by applying "-w" (without the " ) as a command line switch. This way the Desktop would be displayed in widescreen 16:10 while the game stays at 4:3.

could freelancer be played at a realistic speed on a projector?

Since a projector is merely another display device, it would have no effect on the speed of the game.

To Preacher:

What are you using to edit the camera.ini? On my PC when I open the file, I can see the text, but everything else is just squares and such. Am I missing something?

he's using the SDK either 1.3 or 1.5 .The SDK is a set of Freelancer ini files that have been decoded making them easier to edit. They also have most of Digital Anvil's mistakes from the original ini files fixed.

SDK 1.5 for me. Get it here.
