I used to use guns only, and I was pretty good at it. However, there was a major problem.

I used to fight up to 5+ opponents at the same time - which I just could NOT win regardless of how good I was with my guns.

With missiles though, I changed that. Not only could I take on up to 8 or so opponents - I could actually win as well.

Not bad eh? I am not exaggerating either - missiles means you can dispatch people (or torps as well) with one pass in vanilla freelancer (if you are good enough), and still have the guns to fight with when you run out of ammo.

In clan wars, sometimes you are going to be faced with multiple opponents - and having to fight them alone/hold your position til others can fly to help.
Guns just don't cut it in that situation, and nor does honour. Winning cuts it

I knew people who could take on 8 on 1 with guns only. not only that, but the other guys had missles. My record is 6 on 1 with guns only, but the other guys were using guns too. Now adays everything is missles, missles, and more missles. But if you train with guns enough and learn to avoid missles, most likely people will begin to go back to guns only.

I personally hate missles. Ammo is annoying, and i dunno, i just hate missles... although i can't stress how advantogoes having only guns is while exploring. You can just explore for HOURS on end without ever having to land anywhere. I would know, i did it ^^ it was very fun, but once i had about 70 items i started getting worried i would go over 100 items. After that i just stopped picking up items and headed for the nearest base.

The majority of my ships is outfitted with guns. I have 1 extra missle launcher, which I use sparingly. However, to take out people in freighters/VHFs, a large missle massacre can come in handy >

i have torps/missiles FOR EMERGANCYS ONLY. i can't aim a missile to save my life (never needed to) and torps i don't really need. i can take out a cap ship no probs without (i.e. take out weaponry first then it's a sitting duck) i'm a big fan of 5+ weapons and try to take a multi type loadout

i just use guns cannot get the hang of weapon groups i dodge around until i think the other player has used his or hers ammo up then i take my chance using just guns .Does not always work but sometimes it does .

Well, it's good to know some hardcore gun users are still out there.

I'm still a dogfighter, keep to just guns, my load out varies but as others have stated I do keep a para mounted for when I just can't outfly em anymore.

Demon is right almost every encounter I come across seems to have a lot of missles and some mine spammers too.

if u can't beat em ... u know the rest, I'm a decent pilot but when it comes to 4 or 5 on 1 para's get me out of there intact.
