pulse wepons

what is your opinion on pulse wepons?

(Sorry if this is a repeat thread)

i think they are pretty good because they inflict the shield damage, but after the shields are down they just suck up juice. and that turning off and on the pulse weps. is too annoying to do every time

make groups, i set my group keys to ctrl+1 for set and 1 for the action key. you make a pulse group a gun group a full group and a groupe for each power up like a missle or a countermeasure

i never figured out how to do that

Post Wed Aug 31, 2005 4:34 pm

i'm still workin on it myself

Well, I usually try to only use 1 pulse weapon, either the Debilitator line of turrets, or the Tiz del Cid. Most recently, I've been using 4X Kraken Type 2, 2X Tiz del Cid, 1X Salamanca Mk II Turret. It proves to be a pretty effective combination. But then again might replace 1 Tiz with a Kraken, might prove equally good.

Take shield down as fast as you can. Because just about everything else you throw at the target will damage it more with shields down. Also pulse weapons mess up the target's energy bar.

I only use pulse weapons in PvP or mods where AI shields regenerate - otherwise, they don't usually seem worth it to me. Although, imho, it's stupid that AI shields don't regenerate anyway.

Ditto, Overkill. By the time pulse weapons get the shields offline the next salvo's halfway their. If it makes a difference to you whether it takes four seconds to take down a Sabre or three and a half, then by all means use them, but to me they seem a tad bit impractical.

i rather fil up my gun slots with skyblasts and nomads, pulse weps eint worth it

a hint on weapons groups:the ASSIGN WEAPON GROUP keys don't do anything, the rest should be easy to figure out

1st: Pulse weapons are approx. equal speed w/ Nomad/Codenames, thus your projectiles are more accurate. B: I attempted a 4 nomad/2 Salamanca mk2 config as opposed to 4 nomad/2 tiz, and found it far less efficient. WIth 2 Tiz, you can devastate or detroy the majority of opponents on the intial pass.

Why not just use a shield missle and use the q button to fire them until the shield is down? Sorry if I have missed the point.

@Andkat - I agree that Tizzies are worth it if you're using Nomads. The Salamanca's just can't keep up with the damage level that the Nomad guns put out. If you compare damage/second rates, the Nomad guns put out about 62% higher damage than the Skyblast B's, and I think the Salamancas actually put out less damage per second than the Skyblasts. From a sheer damage/second perspective, pulse weapons can be worth it, but there is no class 9, 750 m/s pulse weapon in the stock game.

Anti-shield missiles require consistent investments into ammunition, and thus funds (especially for higher-level missiles). Also, the uber-shiled neutralizer doesn't happen to exist due to an ini. oversight/glitch that the developers and testers didn't recall to resolve, or possibly register(if they ever even detected it). Also, both utilizable nomads have 699/600 (speed range, I beleive), while a Tiz has 600/600, I beleive. Thus, a Tiz would have decent-excellent accuracy in conjunction with nomads.
