Quick question please...

Hello all. Just returned to Freelancer after playing it about halfway thru when it first came out.

One quick question please...

It seems as though the only way to unlock the jump gates and holes is by following along the storyline as a good guy and completing Juni's missions.

But what if I avoid the good guy storyline and start out as a pirate, or just a freighter... How can I unlock the gates. Will it happaen after I reach a certain level?

Can it be done without the storyline?

Thanks.

one word.... "Open SP"

here
or here

That's two words, Nighthound, "open" and "SP"...maybe even three, since SP stands for Single Player .

Anyway, to expand on that a little...there isn't really any way that you can be a bad guy and still progress in the game. You have to do Juni's missions to accomplish anything, including opening jump gates/holes.

What you can do, as Nighthound pointed out, is use Open SP. It's basically Freelancer without the storyline. Everything is open, and in some cases, you can choose where you start and what equipment/ship you start with. You can also play some of the mods. A lot of them give you the opportunity to be part of different factions, including pirate groups. The downside is that there isn't really a storyline.

The choice is yours. Have fun!

Thanks.

I tried to alter the initialworld.ini to unlock the gates, but couldn't get the right settings; so I either just didn't get it right, or it's interdependent on another file.

Couple questions...

Does the open SP 'lite' also require the mod manager? it doesn't specify that the way the larger open SP does, but when I extracted the lite files, I couldn't find the proper location for the script file.

Also, the link for the mod manager is bad (the one in the open SP download page), is there another? I searched the downloads section, didn't see it.

Thanks.
